G-G returning to Canada

The next step:

Gov. Gen. Michaelle Jean is cutting short a European trip and returning to Canada on Wednesday in the face of the political crisis that is gripping the country.

Jean’s secretary, Sheila-Marie Cook, confirms the Governor General decided to return to Ottawa after the three opposition parties announced an agreement to form a coalition government should the Conservative minority fall to a confidence vote next Monday.

Jean has been on a state visit to central Europe since Nov. 24.

That ticking sound you hear is the Harper Prime Ministerial clock running out.

Sit back, as far away from your ‘puter screen as you can, folks. Some of the toxic spit from the slathering knuckle-draggers, religious zealots and other RepubliCon haters may splash out.

The Freaked Minions and the Blogging Tories discussion boards resident trolls are going to unleash their rage on her, next.

deBeauxOs – BBW already has a post up about how the GG should be elected not appointed. And there’s been muttering on FD about how we ALL KNOW what the GG will do, because we ALL KNOW how her politics swings (due to the Morgentaler Order of Canada).

I hope she has lots of security, some of these people are fucking nuts.

    How far will Harper go?

I wrote my doom and gloom post as a joke but it seems that Harper and the Con’s are bent on pushing the “treason” “coup d’etat” meme to the point of violence.

    I’m getting a bad feeling about this…

Mike – Your nightmare scenario wasn’t altogether way out there.

An awful lot of people don’t get that this is a perfectly legitimate part of the parliamentary process. Words like “illegal” and “overthrow” are also being used, and some wingers are getting really torqued up.

There’s a lot of misinformation out there. The coalition needs to start vigorously rebutting these accusations until people understand what’s going on.

the gg should remove herself from office! how many millions has she procured from canada for haiti? all the while STILL ignoring the queen’s directive to deliver documents from the mohawk clan mom’s to the queen? she does not do her job, is a farce, and baby-steve’s crying to her only shows his desperation ….he is in check and heading towards check-mate.

watch carefully how she moves….ten cents says after she does some wrangling that will please steve she’ll hold him out for $$ and we’ll see another announcement for canadian aide to haiti. her act has gotten very boring.

scout – The GG is returning because she’s the only one with the power to move this out of crisis mode and into the next phase. She needs to give permission for either an election or for the opposition to form a government. Beyond that, I’m not sure there’s much wrangling that can be done unless the Libs & NDP back down from the coalition idea, and that doesn’t look like it’ll be happening.

Well, I didn’t expect to find an ignorant xenophobic hater commenting at JJ’s so there you go, folks!

I was pondering who the mouthbreathers with their ‘hunting rifles’ would go after post: being incited about coup d’etat by the outraged – and helpless, let us not forget hewpwess – Conservatives, but dopey me never considered the GG.

And yet, yeah, she’s the perfect anti-christ to the madding crowd, ala ‘the One’ south of the border. In one swell foop, she’s been palling around with terrorists, comes from an ‘exotic’ part of the nation, is too charismatic and a celebrity, has a straaaange foreign name and non-caucasian look, has socialist beliefs, is an intellectual elitist, been raised on furrin soil as a manchurian candidate, shouldn’t be the Head of State and holds the entire country in the palm of her manicured hand. Plus…for the bonus round, she’s a SHE.

Personally, I can’t help seeing her situation as the penultimate game of “Mother, may I?” and that she holds the key to my xmas present, but oh, I do hope she has fantastic security should she be as ‘prudently audacious’ (well dang it, that’s what it is) as the coalition hopes. That’s a lot of psycho hose beasts for one focal point to withstand.

It’s weird feeling this hope and anxiety at the same time. Just proves I’m too old I guess. If she decides in Harper’s favour, I can’t help but feel ‘abc’ progressives would just drown their sorrows in libations of choice and slog to the polls with gritted teeth.
