How the once-proud National Post has fallen…

And to think the NatPo was once a fairly reasonable conservative publication.
Really! It was! I remember!

I’m going to steal that illo someday. Just so you know.
Steal away, babe! 8)
If the Post is now printing Coulter, then it truly is near the end of its rope.
Well, if there was any doubt as to the direction it’s going (rabid right-wing tabloid), there you have it. Is Ann Coulter published anywhere any more besides the *prestigious* internet?
6 shares of CanWest = 1 cup of Tim Horton’s coffee 8)
Ouch. Some fallen stocks are a pretty good buy right now, but not that one. That one’s on a relentless journey down the toilet bowl, regardless of what happens to the economy.
Wow, laying off real reporters, recruiting drooling idiot right-wing bloggers to post for free and now giving Ann Coulter space?
Jonathan Kay must be so proud. Just lock the doors already and let Schumpeter’s “Creative Destruction” do its thing…
Mike
Seriously. Does anyone other than the prestigious internet publish her drool anymore? Maybe that’s Shaidle’s one hope for a straight job
Meh, I never thought it was all that reasonable in the first place. It was started with the more or less express purpose of making Stockwell Day the Prime Minister.
Stockwell Day!!??? Ew, that had to be before I started reading it. That alone would have turned me off the NP forever.
Oh, yeah, that was what Conrad Black started it for. For about a year there it should have been called the Stockwell Daily. The other project it had going was trying to rehabilitate Mulroney’s image.
Oh geez, this is getting embarassing. Could I be thinking of another paper? Maybe the Globe?
I’ve read the National (“Anti-smokers are Nazis”) Post off and on since 1996; when was it ever reasonable?
Err… hmm. I’m starting to think maybe my perception has changed, because I seem to remember reading it and, while not agreeing with most of what I read there, at least not thinking they were completely batshit like I do now.
Or maybe I was more conservative then? Yeah, that’s the ticket. 9/11, that’s where I flipped my switch.
I wouldn’t line a litter box with the NatPo. I’m not surprised they are printing Coulter, she is just slightly crazier than their usual garbage.
They should be going tabloid soon, and being sold at checkout stands everywhere alongside the Enquirer.
Well, um, the problem with that scenario is that the Enquirer sells and is profitable (or once was, who knows what’s happening now?).
The NP did once have better writers, and a bit more balance, but it was always a product in search of an audience that wasn’t there.
I thought there was a time it wasn’t completely whacked out, but you’re right, it never found an audience. Being a “national newspaper” is a hard row anyway — newspapers just aren’t thought of as “national” media.
Haven’t they filed for bankruptcy yet? Or did they get a Bailout?
I honestly didn’t know the author of the article until the fourth paragraph made me pick my right eye off my cheek. I supposed I should have known, what with the tag and all. I blame no-one but myself.
The line that got me was the one where she implied single mothers only have two options :
1. Marry the father.
2. Give the child up for adoption.
I’m just glad it was my bad eye.
I wonder what Coulter thinks of Bristol Palin?
Oh I forgot — IOKIYAR.
Those two options would suggest that Coulter is adopted since her mother would not, could not marry Satan?
As I said above, I’ll be interested to see what Ann has to say about new single mom Bristol. Hmm? Or not.
