I’ve Got Mail

Someone takes exception to my use of the term “anti-choice”:

re-timing-fail-inbox-yahoo-mail_1239299933887

A quick google search revealed that “Liz Wheeler” has posted this little missive elsewhere, in the comments section of another blog post about Unhinged Gingi. Gingi’s fan club!

I’ve always thought the term “anti-choice” was a little onerous, but in fact these misogynist scum are opposed to many more reproductive choices than just abortion — they’re anti-contraception and basically anti-sex-for-any-reason-other-than-procreation. (How often have you seen one of them argue that a “woman’s right to choose” ends with choosing to keep her legs together?) Anti-choice is a far more accurate descriptor than “anti-abortion”, or (*eyeroll*) “anti-feticide/embryocide(!!)”, as per the site “Liz” invites me to visit. No misunderstanding on my part.

But I’m all for clarification, so to put it in terms even “Liz” can understand:

UPDATE: By popular demand, more gibberish from Liz:

You can always tell things are getting serious when the caps lock key gets stuck momentarily.  Anyway, I invited her over:

helloliz

but I doubt she’ll show.  Boo hoo hoo!

    Well done JJ.

I left a little tidbit for Liz over at the allspinzone too.

Do you think “uterus enslaver” or “Christo-fascist” is too vague?

    Mike

    Anti-tolerance. Anti-mindyerownbeeswax. Anti-intellectual. Anti-honesty. Anti-climax. Anti-pleasure. Anti-empowerment. Anti-liberty. Anti-medicalsafety. Anti-survival. Anti-education. Anti-povertyreduction. Anti-postbirthsupport.

I’m sure there are others to add to the list.

The trouble with fetus-fetishist is it’s hard to say. Pro-blastocyst? (sounds like a rocket fuel enhancer) Fetophile? Is that the proper terminology for something aiming younger than a pedophile? Certainly, by their actions, by the time a baby is born, it loses all their intensely passionate interest.

  3. 3 JJ Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 10:48 am

BWAHAHAAA! I just saw that!!!

Uterus enslaver, Christo-fascist, those are good terms. Clear and to the point, so they get it. The Forced Childbirth crew isn’t known for being overly cerebral :( :P

I also coined the term “zygote zealot”, that’s a little easier to enunciate :P

JJ – you have to let us know if/when she responds to your reply (which was classic BTW)…

I look forward to her shrieking reply!

  6. 6 JJ Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 11:07 am

Joe – What I don’t understand is why she had to email me at all. She has an email addy, so she could have posted a comment right here.

Anyway, I doubt she’ll respond. She’s probably busy googling every blogpost about Gingidouche and firing off cut&paste emails and comments as fast as she can. It’s like what follows copious quantities of corn chowder — a shotgun blast of verbal diarrhea, splattering everything in sight!

  7. 7 Bruce Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 11:11 am

Good answer JJ, although I still think anti-choice isn’t far off the mark. Their whole thing seems to be control of others and it certainly isn’t limited to a Woman’s right to choose. I guess as long as the choice is theirs, they’re for it.

I’ve heard that name before, can’t remember where and I think it goes back a few years, but I’m sure I’ve heard of her before.

Why not make the offer that if you withdraw the word
    anti-choice, they’ll drop an offensive word–like
abortuary or maybe some other emotion-laden word
    or phrase.

“You use of the term “anti-choice” is very misleading…”

    No it’s not.

“…shows a significant misunderstanding of the term.”

    No it doesn’t.

    “…one who opposes ALL choices.”

    Yes. Problem with that, Liz?

Either that, or “Liz” is really a comment bot.

Either that, or it’s the verbal equivalent of your Fart Stew.

Anti-choice is certainly more appropriate than the mendacious pro-life.

  12. 12 mouthyorange Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 2:04 pm

“How often have you seen one of them argue that a “woman’s right to choose” ends with choosing to keep her legs together?”

But only if she’s not married. The escapees from fundy families that I know tell me that as brothers and sisters growing up together they were taught that the woman is to obey the man, and a wife is to obey her husband, in everything. This would leave no option in the marital bed for her to choose to keep her legs together.

  13. 13 JJ Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 6:07 pm

Bruce – Anti-choice is a weird term, but it’s about as close to the mark as I can get (without using expletives). For this woman to claim that choice means “all” choices, as in Every Choice in the World, is the height of disingenuousness, since “choice” in this context is obviously limited to women’s reproductive choices.

The name sounds familiar to me too, but then again, it’s a common name…

  14. 14 JJ Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 6:14 pm

Torontonian – But I like the word “Abortuary” I especially like it when they say “The accursed abortuary” (as in, “We stood in the pouring rain all night fondling our rosaries, screaming at women and wanking off outside the Accursed Abortuary”), it sounds positively medieval.

If we’re talking about ratcheting down the hyperbole, “pro-abort” is one that irks me a bit… but not enough to give up “fetus fetishist”!!

  15. 15 JJ Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 6:21 pm

Chimera – I didn’t know the term “anti-choice” bothered them so much. Heh.

This Liz person’s beef seems to be that it obscures the real meaning of abortion (cue thunder sound FX)… another one who wants to pretend that people don’t know what an abortion is. These freaks are hopeless.

JAB – Nope, not a bot, I just checked my email and she puked out another one 8)

Seriously! Talk about misleading. I don’t even use that term without ” ” around it.

Well, I rest my case. Anti-choice it is.

    To: Liz Wheeler,

Upon reading your cut-and-paste spam link to the “Why “Anti-Choice” is an Imprecise and Inaccurate Term when Debating Human Feticide” post, I wanted to bring a particular point to your attention.

Your use of the terms “anti-feticide, anti-embryocide (is that even a real word?), and “pro-human life rights” is very misleading, and show a significant penchant for question-begging rhetoric.

I realize that you’d prefer it if you could dictate the use of terms that assume your conclusion, and that you’d like to ignore the effects that your position has on unarguably actual moral agents, but (if ever)it bears pointing out that very rarely is the term “anti-choice” employed in a manner where the context fails to make it quite clear what choice it is referring to. Those who support a woman’s right to choose what to do with her own body are not, as you claim, making a statement about “all choices” when they refer to the anti-choice position many hold with respect to reproductive rights and medical decision-making freedom.

Lastly, your and David Schmidt’s opinion does not magically become “information” by virtue of publishing it on the web or by cut-and-paste spam linking via email, nor does it become any less disingenuous by the act of labeling it “precise”, “logical”, or “scientifically accurate”.

I would invite you to visit your local university’s Philosophy department and sign up for an introductory class in critical thinking, as most at least touch on the distinction between rhetoric and debate, and almost all cover the matters of question begging and other fallacious forms of reasoning.

Thank you (and looking forward to David’s and your future collaborative efforts on “www.notproabortion.com”),

    Audrey II

JAB – Just more of the same gibberish, but I’ll post it up so you guys can dissect it if you want.

She seems to take issue with using the word “choice” instead of “abortion” because it detracts from what abortion is — like people don’t know what it is. You’d have to be pretty fucking retarded to make an appointment for an abortion and think you were going in for a pap test. Duh!

It’s funny because that’s not why we use the word “choice” at all — “anti-choice” is only used because these people have shown that they’re against a lot more than just abortion.

  22. 22 Steven Reynolds Friday, April 10, 2009 at 6:25 am

I’m not sure of the need for so much comment. the woman is clearly a low grade spam artist. I think I said something like that when she spammed my post at Allspinzone. Whack jobs don’t bother me enough to get all flustered about it.

Now if there were an infestation of troll-like spammers, that would be another thing altogether.

  23. 23 JJ Friday, April 10, 2009 at 6:35 am

Audrey – That was my first thought too — for someone who’s all hung up about terminology, it’s pretty weird that she’d use a nonexistent word.

However, although “embryocide” hasn’t made it to mainstream dictionaries yet, it can be found in some medical publications.

Anyway, well said — maybe Liz will weigh in (but I doubt it, because she’s just interested in propagating fetus fetishist propaganda, not debate).

  24. 24 JJ Friday, April 10, 2009 at 6:46 am

Steven – No doubt you’re right.

I seldom bother with drive-by trolls who drop a turd and take off, but since this person has emailed me (twice), it kind of piqued my interest. Slow news day, what can I say :P

  25. 25 Bruce Friday, April 10, 2009 at 7:30 am

I told you there was something familiar about her. When Steven said low grade spam artist, it all came back to me. That’s the chick, she has a half life of about two to three years.

  26. 26 J. A. Baker Friday, April 10, 2009 at 10:15 am

Just more of the same gibberish, but I’ll post it up so you guys can dissect it if you want.

As is frequently said on the Megatokyo forums when something prurient is referred to, but not shown, in the comic:

    Pics. Or it didn’t happen.

  27. 27 JJ Friday, April 10, 2009 at 3:16 pm

OK, her second shriekmail is up. Same shit, different day!

  28. 28 Paj Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 4:38 am

Holy shit, I’ve been locking horns with this woman too. I had no idea who she was until I googled David Schmidt this morning. This is hilarious and now I have absolutely no compunctions about publicly flogging her on my blog.

  29. 29 JJ Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 8:55 am

HAHAHAHA! I put her on “spam” so I would stop getting her emails. She won’t stop, she’s one of their bots. Flog away, and come back and post a link to the flogging :P
