I don’t often feel sorry for fetus fetishists (okay, never), but I was almost… almost… driven to that point when I read this, from lifeshite:
This morning representatives from the office of the Canadia
n Governor General received a petition of 18,222 names opposing the award of the Order of Canada to the man most responsible for the legalization of abortion in Canada – abortionist Henry Morgentaler. The petition marks the second large petition submitted in opposition to the award. A petition launched by Campaign Life Coalition with 30,000 names was submitted in August.
In over 10 months, they’ve been able to gather less than 50,000 signatures combined on petitions protesting what was supposedly the most red-hot and galvanizing Canadian anti-choice issue in years (cue ominous music, key of A minor): the Morgentaler Order of Canada. Shit, I’ve signed anti-war petitions that boomed past 50,000 signatures in a day.
It’s not like they didn’t relentlessly flog the shit out of this thing, either — they were shrieking about it all summer and fall. They petitioned, they protested, they polled (massively), they astroturfed, they tried to get the Order revoked and when that didn’t work, they tried to get other recipients to return theirs in protest (9 returns to date, 4 from beyond the grave)… they turned on the Governor-General and they turned on Justice Mclachlin. Their outrage went on and on and on and on… and then it just kind of crapped out like a wet fart. If the whole doomed sorry-ass campaign could somehow be distilled into a single image, it would be primo material for FAILblog… “EPIC FAIL“.
And to top it all off, now along comes this new petition that brings their total number of signatures all the way up to about 1/4 of 1% of the voting-age population.
That’s just sad…
But I’ll take it! BWAHAHA!

Couldn’t happen to a more deserving bunch of religious zealots.
Yay! Now they will finally realize that Canadians are totally fine with the way things are and they will finally SHUT THE FUCK UP. Right? Um, right?
What these idiots don’t get, though, is that the award is given to a person who creates an atmosphere of change, not to the person who most pleases the holiest-of-hoier-than-thous.
Er…I was gonna go change that spelling error, but I looked at it again and it seems to fit, somehow…
deBeauxOs – Most definitely, all their prayers were obviously answered.
fern hill – They’ll NEVER shut the fuck up, unless they start making those red stickers they put over their mouths big enough to cover their noses too. (Oh Christ, now some delicate doily will accuse me of wanting to “assassinate” them.)
Chimera
IIRC, that was explained to them UMPTEEN thousand times last summer — the OC is for people who make an impact, and wherever you stand on the issue, nobody can deny that Dr.M made an impact. A very positive one, in the view of the majority.
That’s what blows my mind about this — the majority is more than OK with the award — why should a minority opinion hold sway over the majority? (NOW cue some dumbass to say “What about gay marriage??” — except the the majority is okay with that too, and even if they weren’t, it’s not an award, it’s a human right.)
Gee, if we left it in the hands of the SoCons, Stockwell Day would never have had to change his name to Doris.
RB – Hahahahaha! OMG, I’d forgotten all about that.
You should check out the Socon or Bust coverage. Apparently they’re also upset about police “harassment” of their “demo.”
Rev Dave –
Ya made me look
It’s interesting that whenever these people report “harassment”, nobody seems to know anything about it.
The truth is they’re persecution freaks whose imaginations run wild most of the time. What probably happened is that one of the staffers saw one of them carrying a sign and thought that meant a bunch more would soon be showing up for an organized protest. It’s not really normal for individuals to drag signs around with them that say “I REGRET MY ABORTION”. So the staffers called the cops, the cops came and asked them some questions about what they were doing, ergo: persecution!
I do have to laugh, though, when I see a little nazi like Pacheco clutching his pearls about the “jackboots”. There’s an old saying, nobody’s more afraid of being robbed than a thief.
Muahahahaha….EXCELLENT. Pffffffft. Is that all there is? WAAAAH !!!! Oh well at least they’ll be no shortage of toilet paper in the GG’s house. But the part I really LOVE is the shot of the cops questioning that skinhead in the black leather jacket. He’s lucky he wasn’t tasered. *SIGH* But I suppose you can’t have EVERYTHING..
Meanwhile, the city of Hamilton caves to pressure from abortion-criminalizers.

Just watch, it’ll probably Gingi Edmonds.
Just goes to show ya.
Overblown rhetoric loses at the end of the day.
JJ, wann see some heads REALLY explode?
God aborts and kills more kids than humans….
Zarathustra — Perfect.
deBeauxOs – You know what’s really weird about that? Human rights complaint?? Aren’t these the same people that are screaming for the HRCs to be abolished?
JAB – Never mind the sticker, Gingi could use a straight jacket.
Bruce – Yes, the louder someone screams something, the less likely it is that people will believe what they’re saying.
Mike – Great vid, thanks for posting it. (Also I had no idea that these comments were embeddable.)
I’m sure they have an answer for that, like they do for everything else — it’s okay if God does it, or something like that. God’s will — the all-purpose answer to unanswerable questions.

Maybe that part was just edited out
