    Hi guys

I was so glad to see that post — a comprehensive smackdown of the highest order, one which i would have loved to have done myself, but I’m right out of gas with this topic. The past week has seriously depleted my idealism and energy and creativity… I might have to just post cat pictures for awhile :(

    Hey JJ -

Rest! Renew! Post cat pictures. (And doggeh pictures – SQ beat me to it!)

You’ve done so much to help the rest of us get through this week. You’ve done good. Even though you may feel as though you’re going down.

And so, like, what’s going down these days in the attempt to take away women’s freedoms (such as they are) is really awful, but on the other hand it’s not news — haven’t we feminists known since the 70s (and before) that the oppression of women is a profoundly deep political and psychological problem that will take a lot more to solve than what we’ve seen change so far?

Those who may have imagined that merely donning a business jacket, acting cold, and climbing nearer to the top of the corporate ladder meant that women’s problems were solved may have been due for a wake-up, but some of us always knew that the roots of women’s oppression ran this deep.

That’s the only comfort I have to offer. That this isn’t new trouble; it’s the same old, just not gone yet. No need to be totally traumatized; only somewhat. We’re not defeated. It’s just a BIG problem. We were right! And still are.

orange – Thanks for posting that, hon. Really :)

Researching some of these posts this week, I had to do a lot of reading of anti-choice sites, and after a few days of it my brain felt like it was filling up with some kind of poison. The level of hate and vitriol that’s out there is almost unbelievable, and so is the level of ignorance about Dr. Tiller’s practice. The anti-choice movement has been very successful in turning disinformation into raw hatred.

It’s been a rough week for everyone who loves liberty, but especially for those of us who fought this particular battle (and won it) 40 years ago — I’ve been posting with tears in my eyes. I knew girls in high school who had back-alley abortions (one died). The murder of an abortion provider always brings that back and reminds me of how far these bastards are willing to go to impose their own form of tyranny. The fucking Taliban would welcome them with open arms.

No need to be totally traumatized; only somewhat. We’re not defeated. It’s just a BIG problem. We were right! And still are.

You’re right. I probably just need a nice cold beer. Or 10!!! :P

A good cry, a raging scream, a hot sudsy bath, ten cold beers, and some chocolate. (Fairly traded of course.) ;)

  9. 10 JJ Sunday, June 7, 2009 at 10:51 am

    Did someone say “chocolate”??

[runs to fridge where chocolate is hoarded]

    “Go. Read. Yes, now.”

Did and done, Mom. That was awesome!

Take a break. hon. You deserve it. But don’t forget to come back when you’re rested. And kitteh and doggeh pix would be a break for us from all the vitriol, too, eh?
