Predictably, after seeing Penn & Teller’s take on the Catholic church, Catholic League Grand Wizard Bill Donohue went on a shrieking, red-faced, incontinent rampage on Fox News yesterday, spinning all his bearings and blowing the proverbial head gasket:
Catholic League President Bill Donohue presented a paranoid side of his personality to Fox News Monday morning, declaring that “militant, dogmatic” atheists are “out to get” Catholics and dismantle American society.
“I’m talking about the extremists within [liberal] ranks who have become very, very vocal,” Donohue said. “And over the last several decades what we’ve seen is an all-out assault. This kind of new atheism. This militant dogmatic fundamentalist atheism out there to get us.”
SHRIEEEEEEK!
Donohue fumed on and on and on (and on) in a Catholic League news release yesterday, calling Penn & Teller’s show “Nazi-like” (and thus losing the debate):
I was happy to finger CBS this morning on “Fox and Friends” as the ultimate culprit: Penn & Teller’s Nazi-like assault on Catholicism that took place on August 27 will go down in history as one of the most vile, obscene programs ever aired in any nation. That CBS, which owns Showtime, allows this to go on is positively unbelievable. [...]
We want everyone to know about what CBS considers fair game. There is no way to undo the damage already done, but CBS/Showtime can still drop Penn & Teller. The ball is in their court.
“Happy to finger”: that’s a phrase I’d probably try to avoid if I represented an institution as famous for its priests being “happy to finger” any little kid in its care as it is for, well, I can’t think of anything else right now but I’ll get back to you.
Will CBS cave to the dyspeptic Donohue? Will Donohue unleash millions of Catholic winged monkeys to go all Torquemada on CBS’s ass (nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!!)?
