Rachel Maddow on Census Worker killing

Further to this post from yesterday, about the census worker killed in Kentucky, here’s Rachel Maddow’s report last night:

Apart from the obvious possibility of this murder being fueled by anti-government sentiment, I was thinking it might have been about drugs — the area is known for its meth labs and pot farms.  And seriously, I would rather think it was because of something like that, because the other alternative is terrifying.

But the “Copperhead Road” scenario seems a little unlikely considering that the last thing anyone running an illegal operation would want to do is bring teams of cops into the area for a murder investigation.  If this poor guy stumbled onto a meth lab, they’d more likely have shot him and quietly buried the body somewhere.  Hanging the guy and writing “FED” on his chest is (obviously) meant to attract attention and send a message.  The fact that the FBI has kept the story quiet for so long is also ominous.  And all the blind, brain-damaged rage and hysteria that’s been whipped up about the census, ACORN, FEMA camps etc., is probably enough to put any census worker in danger.

And ACORN employees. Given the right’s focus on ACORN as the water-fluoridating enemy du jour, I would be especially worried if I were an ACORN employee. I mean, think of the copycat killings this will inspire.

JAB – Oh, hell yeah, ACORN employess I think it goes without saying should be watching their asses.

One of the problems with all the hate rhetoric and bullshit spewed by the Becks and Bachmanns of the world is that most of the people listening to them are not too bright. And if they only listen with half an ear, Census, ACORN, interment camps, all becomes an intermingled mass of gibberish that they interpret who knows how.

That’s an awful story. Just awful. Some sick basterds did this.

Let’s get all the facts before you pin this on conservatives.

On a completely unrelated topic – Have you read any of those protest signs your Teabagger buddies use, Jasper?

Yea, because they aren’t promoting this kind of shit, not at all.

    Dead Men,

The MSM picks out a couple bad signs out of thousands and says this is what conservatives think. You’re smarter than that.

  6. 6 Dead Men Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 9:11 pm

The MSM! OH, it’s the MSM! THE LIBRUL MEDIA!!! SHRIEEEEEEK!

The entire teabag fucking movement thinks that way.

    Pillock.

    Jasper

The MSM picks out a couple bad signs out of thousands and says this is what conservatives think.

Fox News showed all the same signs. I would have thought Fox News would want to make the teabaggers look good, since they pretty much orchestrated and promoted the whole event.

You’re right, this isn’t how real conservatives think, but it’s very much how teabagger-conservatives “think”.

Conservatives ARE sick bastards. The way they dwell on the most ridiculous things is a dead giveaway–they fixate on fetuses and ignore living women, they fixate on beheadings and ignore the fact that there are over one billion Muslims in the world, the overwhelming majority of which do NOT behead, etc., etc. Oh yeah, and they think that the more money you make, the more virtuous you are. Every “value” they subscribe to is based on a total delusion. That’s sick.

Maybe not all of them would go out and kill someone themselves, but they all subscribe in some form or degree to the notion that it’s okay to eliminate anyone who is Not One Of Us. That’s fucking sick.

Therefore, conservatives are all, and without exception, mental as fuck.

Why is that so hard to accept?

    Good morrow, all!
There is nothing inherently good or evil about either side in any political dispute. If God really plays favorites, then He is no better than any of us, and therefore not worthy of worship.
The US was founded by radicals. The mercantile system of the day favored the Mother Country, and the merchants and businessmen of the Colonies rankled under the system’s patent unfairness.
So, they told German George to stuff it, and declared themselves free. Very, VERY radical. Yes, there were conservatives in that time who supported the maintenance of the ststus quo. They called themselves The United Empire Loyalists. They left.
The Founding Fathers were Deists, not Christians. They favored reason over dogma. True, they kept slaves, and were bigoted against anyone other than a male of European extraction, but the steps they took for the freedom of their new country were very, VERY radical steps.
Now, the conservatives of our times use the terms, “radical, liberal, progressives” as epithets, as perjorative terms, as insults, as illustrating that CHANGE IS BAD.
Okay. Let us take away their electic light, their automobiles, their internet access, all transcontinental travel ability. After all, if God had intended man to be progressive, He would have given Man technology and the ability to reason.
Wait. He already did, didn’t He? Oops. His Bad. He must have not had all the facts. Tsk, tsk. That has to be corrected.

Bina – Although you make some good points about the extremists, I’d hesitate to paint conservatives with too broad a brush. Even though it’s the nuts that get all the attention, believe it or not, they’re in the minority. The vast majority of conservatives (especially here in Canada) are “red tories”, definitely not compatible with that gang of born-again boneheads and fetus fetishizing geeks south of the border.

Even I have a few somewhat conservative views (though not socially, obviously) ;)

    CTZen

The US was founded by radicals.

I wonder if that’s why they’re so prone to believing conspiracy theories and other forms of radical thinking, left and right.

It was pointed out to me in another thread that we don’t have anything comparable to Birthers and Truthers up here, which is true. Although I’m sure there are some Canadians who concur with those particular conspiracy theories, there’s nothing like them in Canada. Nobody demanding to see Steve’s birth certificate, or accusing the government of orchestrating the Air India bombing.

    Hmmm… *ponders*

“Conservatives ARE sick bastards. The way they dwell on the most ridiculous things is a dead giveaway–they fixate on fetuses and ignore living women”

That’s not true, we help poor women alot through church charaties, CPC’s, fundraisers, etc. What do witches do for poor women bina?

    btw: unborn children are living.

“they fixate on beheadings and ignore the fact that there are over one billion Muslims in the world, the overwhelming majority of which do NOT behead, etc., etc. ”

Yeah, that’s why George W. Bush spent all of that blood and money rebuilding Iraq and Afganistan. Yea, we believe they’re all beheaders…

“Oh yeah, and they think that the more money you make, the more virtuous you are. Every “value” they subscribe to is based on a total delusion. That’s sick.”

You have it backwards, Republicans are NOT the party of the rich, Democraps are. I.E George Soros, Bill Gates, Warren Buffet and many more Liberal billionares…

  14. 14 Dr. Prole Friday, September 25, 2009 at 7:30 pm
