Great Moments in Brain Damage II

I guess today I’ll be posting intermittent pictures from the baggers’ parade in DC, for your mocking and ridiculing pleasure.

Here’s how they dressed up the Fetusmobile™©® for the occasion:

I like the “REPENT” at the top — nice touch!

And presenting, Duh Base:

Yes, it’s a great day for American conservatism.

(I might have a little brain damage myself, I almost forgot the attribution!  From HuffPo.)

Great Moments in Brain Damage

UPDATED:

From the teabaggers march on DC in some undetermined location, maybe today or maybe earlier this year (commenter Tangerine says this isn’t from DC), yet another spelling FAIL:

moran1

That’s right, Fox News, keep them infromed!  They need to be infromed if they’re going to take back the cuntry.

UPDATED: If you missed the edit in the post, commenter Tangerine Labamba infroms me that this picture can’t be from DC — the weather in DC yesterday was overcast and cool.  Didn’t they have one of these little shindigs back in July?  Maybe it’s from then.  However, there’s little doubt that it’s Teabaggers, doing what they do best… showing off their infromitude.

UPDATE II: Commenter Erin says this is from Austin, Texas.  So it couldn’t have been from yesterday because as far as I know, Austin didn’t have one of these things yesterday.  Sigh.  Or should I say “D’oh!”

teabaggers

I sometimes wonder if there’s one definitive moment or event where all the post-9/11 solidarity and goodwill (regardless of politics) hit a bump in the road and went sideways.

I think about 9/11, but mostly I think about what’s happened to us since then.  And wonder how we could go so wrong.

Songs in the key of Stupid

Oh my god… the teabaggers have a Theme Song!!!  …and it’s so outrageously goofy that I’m not sure if it’s even real.  But Republican Newt Gingrich seems to think so:

Newt Gingrich said “Don’t Tell Me It Can’t Be Done should be the rallying cry for the conservative movement, this is the anthem for the resurgance [sic] of the conservative movement.

Play it (with sound turned off, if necessary) and read the lyrics:  they cover all the brain-damaged teabaggin’ bases like God, guns, government spending,  judgement day, freedom (except the reproductive kind), battle cries, let’s roll, don’t tread on me, gubmint outta my medicare, Our Children, My Daddy…etc!   This can’t be for real:

Maybe some of the musicians can weigh in with a critique.

Two men shot dead in Michigan

UPDATED (2:10pm)

There were two weird and seemingly senseless murders in the Owosso area of Michigan early today.

One was an anti-abortion activist known around town as “The Abortion Sign Guy”, who was shot in front of a school (yes, that’s where they parade their idiotic signs these days, in front of schools), true name James Pouillon:

An anti-abortionist has been shot dead in front of horrified teenagers as they arrived for school.

The man, identified locally as Jim Pouillon, was shot and killed outside the Owosso High School in Owosso, Michigan, at about 7.30am local time today as schoolbuses dropped youngsters off for class.

Owosso Police Chief Michael Compeau said it appears the Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a second homicide this morning that may be related to the shooting that occurred in front of Owosso High School.

The police have a suspect in custody and say the murders are related, but haven’t enlarged upon that.  Although it remains to be seen if Pouillon’s killing had anything to do with his anti-choice activism, that’s not stopping the usual suspects from implying otherwise and even analogizing it to the murder of Dr. George Tiller:

In the wake of the tragedy, Fr. Pavone of Priests for Life told LifeSiteNews.com that he hoped to see “a strong expression of indignation from the pro-abortion community, just like there was a strong expression of indignation form the pro-life community at the killing of Dr. Tiller.”

Nice try, but thanks to an extremely public social networking platform, we got to see the real “indignation”.

Unless Mr. Pouillon was subjected to decades of harassment and was the target of an escalating and unrelenting pro-choice hate campaign that culminated in his summary execution, there’s no basis for analogy.  And not that Father Douche would give a flying fuck, but it’s an insult to Dr.Tiller’s memory that his death, nothing less than a political assassination, would be compared to this tragic but sadly not atypical act of violence.  But hey, might as well strike while the iron’s hot and the body’s still warm, eh?

DC News Conference to Comment on Murder of Pro-Life Activist in Michigan this Morning - Christian Newswire_1252686550569

Because that’s the real goal, isn’t it?  To minimize one murder  (not to mention the ongoing threats to abortion providers) by playing up another.  They’ve been humping this one for months, with phony and fabricated “threat” claims (some so obviously false it’s ridiculous), and now they have a corpse to parade around.

Sorry fetus fetishists.  It’s too bad that both of these guys were killed — and if Pouillon was targeted by some batshit crazy pro-choicer expressly because of his anti-choice activism, other pro-choicers will join me in *strongly denouncing* it.  As much as I disagree with moronic fetus porn displays, I’ve been vocal in my support for the right to be a “moran” (to the chagrin of some of my readers, who are Anti-Moranitarian Extremists).

But that’s where it ends for me:  I’m not playing the false equivalence game with the memory of a pro-choice hero.

UPDATE: According to the NYT, it appears that Pouillon may indeed have been targeted because of his anti-choice activism.  (Link via Lindsay Beyerstein, via Pogge.)  Primarily it seems to be because the shooter didn’t like Pouillon displaying graphic pictures in front of a school…?  And shooting someone in front of a school is so much better?

Although I obviously denounce this brutality, I stand by my remarks about  false equivalence.  This was done by someone clearly unhinged who acted in complete solitude.  It was not the culmination of a decades-long campaign of hate, harrassment and circular reinforcement of the same, directed against the victim.  Out of respect for all the dead, people should avoid making such analogies.

UPDATE 2 (2:30pm):  The shooter apparently had a third target that he never got to, a realtor.  Three targets, motives totally unrelated.  So this was not a politically-motivated crime — rather, some nutcase went off the deep and decided to go around shooting people who’ve pissed him off for various reasons.

My condolences go out to the loved ones of both victims, and particularly to Mrs. Fouss, who is going through treatment for brain cancer.  Stay strong.

UPDATE 3 (2:47pm):  JAB brings up an interesting point.  I’ve read a lot on this story today, but I have yet to see anyone claim that Mr.Pouillon reaped what he sowed by being out there protesting: only that, agree or disagree, it was his right to do so.  As it was Dr.Tiller’s right to perform a legal medical procedure.

So I suppose in that way there is an analogy to be made.

Stay classy, #tcot

I think it’s a nice touch how he prays to the LORD between death threats.

Olbermann: Wrong-Way Wilson

Hahahaha!  Stoopid Panels!

Olbermann on “You Lie!” and some of the other random stupidity that’s become a  mainstay of right-wing whackologue (can’t call it “dialogue” at this point):

Are you paying attention, Bob?  NO death panels.  NO coverage for illegal aliens.  Read the bill, not the manufactured talking points from Freedom Works.

On “sharp rebukes”

The GOP response was fast and furious after the President’s speech on health insurance reform last night, with GOP Rep. Charles Boustany (R-La.) leading the charge and sharply rebuking” Obama:

Rep. Charles Boustany pounded back in the GOP response to President Barack Obama’s health care speech Wednesday evening, sharply rebuking Obama for what he characterized as a sweeping package steep in costs and short on benefits for families and small businesses.

Ouch.  Who is this Rep. Charles Boustany, anyway?

According to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics, Rep. Boustany received $1,256,056 from health and insurance interests since first being elected in 2004.  The total counts for more than 20 percent of all of his fundraising.

A Republican with conflict of interest issues?  Say it ain’t so!  And while we’re on the subject of conflicts of interest, self-interest… hypocrisy… wait a minute, what’s this?  Why, it’s the dreaded “Death Panel” section of Obama’s health insurance reform act, the one Sarah Palin claims will KILL GRANNY™©®.   (AND TRIGG™©®!)  And the sponsors of that fearsome piece of legislation are… who?:

Mr. Blumenauer (for himself, Mr. Boustany, Mr. Davis of Kentucky, Mr. Kind, Mr. Tiberi, and Mr. Yarmuth) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce, and in addition to the Committee on Ways and Means, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned

The late great Dr. Gonzo once described GOP presidents as being “so crooked they need a brace of Secret Servicemen to help them screw their pants on every morning”.   I think that goes double for GOP congressmen.

The worm

has turned.  And that scratching sound you hear is a thousand  furious wingnuts feverishly scraping and grasping for new talking points, because seriously, they need to come to the table with something better than “YOU LIE!“  Especially when even they realize it’s such a dumb thing to say that they apologize not long after at the behest of not only Democrats, but one of their own, and blame it all on raging PMS or something like that.

Can the GOP humiliate itself any further?

Of course it can!  At this very moment, Rush is preparing to be “up” all night getting the new Wingnut Marching Orders ready for dissemination tomorrow morning on the EIB (Excrement In Broadcasting) NUTwork.  Everyone knows what not to expect: anything sane.  I anticipate an extended analysis of Joe Wilson’s imbecilic heckling, along with frenetic exclamations about what a Great American Hero he is, and how immigrants really do suck, will dominate the show.  And if the Rev is right, probably the dialogue for the next couple of weeks.

But never mind that.  The president has reassured frantic progressives who envisioned the public healthcare option slipping out of reach; now he needs to follow through.

About what I expected

In the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups…

Whatever!dammit-janet_1250734127921blind

I haven’t been to my mailbox in a few days, but I expect there’s a letter waiting for me there that’s identical to the one Dr. Dawg received yesterday.  That is, a letter from Regional Crown Counsel Grant B. Wong, responding to concerns about the slap-on-the-wrist sentence of convicted rapist Fernando Manuel Alves, and asking the Crown to consider appealing the sentence.  The Crown’s response is basically “It’s a done deal — fuck off”.

The Crown’s refusal to even consider appealing Alves’ sentence doesn’t surprise me at all; I would have been far more surprised if they’d agreed to appeal.  A deal’s a deal, after all.

Yep, it stinks.  But the sentence Alves was gifted with has nothing to do with misogyny, or crimes against women not being taken seriously, or rape victims being thrown under the bus because the other principals involved — the perp, the lawyers, the judge — were all men.

It’s about freedom as a commodity like wheat or sugar or porkbellies or cocaine;  it’s negotiated, traded and bartered, bought and sold, with mundane regularity.  Someone knowledgeable about such things once told me that’s the way the criminal justice system works in Vancouver, and cases like this one give me no reason to disbelieve him.

The best that can be done is to go on the defensive and watch out for creeps like this.  (Yeah right, and hire a drink tester for those occasions when you want to go to the bar and have a drink unscathed like all the other humans.)

Can you draw a map of Canada by memory?

Okay, maybe.  Canada’s not that hard to remember, since we’ve only got 13 provinces and territories. What about the USA, with 52 50 states?  No way could I do that, and I doubt if most Americans could.  But Senator Al Franken can!:

Somebody’s gonna get spanked

… and not in a way he’ll enjoy!

Yes, it’s that time again:  yet another GOP family values hypocrite boogies up and joins the Conga Line of Lust:

Michael Duvall is a conservative Republican state representative from Orange County, California. While waiting for the start of a legislative hearing in July, the 54-year-old married father of two and family values champion began describing, for the benefit of a colleague seated next to him, his ongoing affairs with two different women. In very graphic detail.

But-but-but-but-but but… !!!:

“California’s families are under a constant assault in Sacramento, and CRI does an excellent job of educating legislators and staff alike on issues, and advocating in defense of the traditional family,” Assemblyman Duvall said.

And who is this “CRI” of which you speak?:

The mission of Capitol Resource Institute (CRI) is to educate, advocate, protect, and defend family-friendly policies in the California state legislature and at local government levels.

Yet another one of these anti-gay organizations who dress up their bigotry in “family values” rhetoric.  And ironically, their home page has this graphic:Capitol Resource Institute_1252515714215

Hmmm!  Maybe that was meant to be a warning?

(JoeMyGod has a video of this hypocritical clown.)

The sofa is occupied

th_jesus… SaWah will take the cross.

The unwritten law of memes is that when you find one that catches fire, keep pouring on the gasoline… and in that spirit, Sarah Palin was in the Wall Street Journal yesterday, dumping on healthcare reform with her Rolling Death Panel Road Show:

Given such statements, is it any wonder that many of the sick and elderly are concerned that the Democrats’ proposals will ultimately lead to rationing of their health care by—dare I say it—death panels? Establishment voices dismissed that phrase…

Dis-missed! by the uppity Establishment Voices of the Liberal “Elite“!  Poor Sarah, so persecuted.  That’s martyrdom we can believe in, and anti-establishment Republican rebel SaWah just loves to wallow in it.  And why not?  As the General advised Pastor Anderson, martyrdom is a cash cow Palin can ride all the way to 2012.

But fortunately, there’s another unwritten law of memes:  for every meme, there’s a counter-meme.  That’ll happen when the US gets real healthcare reform and Sarah’s Death Panel meme gets the thumbs-down from the death panel also known as “reality”.

More parody

This Obama school speech thing is turning out to be snark bait of the highest order:

(via A Creative Revolution)

The Hypocrisy

… it burrrrrrns almost as badly as The Stupid.

In 1988, Ronald Reagan pushed his anti-government, low-tax ideology in a speech broadcast to classrooms nationwide, adding that he had supported “Negro” educational institutions.

Oh but that’s okay, because uh, well, um, err…oh!  Look over there! It’s Halley’s Comet!

Watch video of “The Great Indoctrinator” here.

Hahahahaha!

From The Mudflats, a parody of the dumbass who was crying about her kids having to listen to Obama’s SocialistNaziCommunistRastafarianFascist Indoctrination Speech:

(h/t brebis noire in the comments)

Sadly, not so unbelievable

Florida GOP Chair Jim Greer, who’s completely and utterly beclowned himself by doing some of the first and freakiest of the  hysterical, spittle-flecked, batshit berserk fearmongering about Pres.Obama’s FascistNaziJihadistSocialist Indoctrination Speech©®™ to schoolchildren, has read the speech and changed his tune:

It’s a good speech,” Florida GOP chairman Jim Greer said Monday.  “It encourages kids to stay in school and the importance of education and I think that’s what a president should do when they’re gonna talk to students across the country.”  [...]

And you knew it was coming — the insipid, cowardly, cover-your-ass “But”:

“This was clearly moving in a direction that would have not been satisfactory to me as a parent, and I know many other parents across this country.  The White House has changed, the Department of Education took it all out, but when they submitted it, when they sent it out, when they created those lesson plans – the objections from me, the statement from me, and the objections from many other parents was warranted and they should’ve thought about it more carefully before they tried it.”

Right, it wasn’t the speech, the contents of which were a complete mystery to these shrieking nitwits, it was the Nazi Lesson Plan, with those deadly instructions to “write a letter about how you can help the President” (which really means “Rise up tonight, my young Obots, and stab your dumbass Republican parents to death with Bic pens!”)

Of course, Greer neglected to explain why it was okay for Bush 41 to ask kids to write letters about how they could help him.

(h/t Frank Frink in the comments)

Indeed

Good question.

In 1991, then-President Bush addressed school kids in a speech broadcast live to school classrooms nationwide. Among other things, he promoted his own administration’s education policies. But before he wrapped up his remarks, H.W. Bush told students something else:

“Let me know how you’re doing. Write me a letter — and I’m serious about this one — write me a letter about ways you can help us achieve our goals. I think you know the address.”

Why didn’t anyone have a full-throttle, hair-pulling, eye-bulging, spittle-flecked  freakout when Bush 41 talked to schoolchildren about values like hard work and responsibility and asked them to (cue ominous music) write him a letter?

Or when Reagan spoke to students back in 1988?

Or for that matter, when Bush 43 read “The Pet Goat” to the kids at a Florida elementary school?  Because who knows what vile political propaganda he’d intended to indoctrinate them with after that fateful reading, if he hadn’t been interrupted?

How often, over the years, has the scene below played out across the USA?

You got it:  NEVER.  Why?

Think about it, it’ll come to you.

UPDATE: Here’s the text of the speech, as released by the White House today.  I don’t know about you, but it sounds pretty subversive to me.  Like this:

Hello everyone – how’s everybody doing today?

SHRIEEEEK!  It gets worse…

And that’s what I want to focus on today: the responsibility each of you has for your education. I want to start with the responsibility you have to yourself.

AIIIEEEEEEE!!!!

Yeah but

… given her track record, can we be sure she’ll actually show up for it?

Your chance to win an intimate supper with Sarah Palin – and Todd comes, too | World news | guardian.co.uk_1252271385075

But what am I saying?  SaWah fans are so cataclysmically feeble-minded that right this very moment they’re all viciously teabagging their brains out in support of a party that mostly ignored them for Sarah+Palin,+Governor+of+Alaska+on+Flickr+-+Photo+Sharing!the last 8 years (except at election time)… so certainly they can’t be expected to remember Palin’s propensity for no-shows.

Send money, rubes!  Don’t delay!  She’ll be there… that’s a pwomise.  And don’t forget, part of the deal is that “Todd comes too”, so it wouldn’t hurt to bring along a few extra napkins.

Olbermann on town hall scum heckling disabled woman

This is kind of where I hit the wall with this whole healthcare reform/town hall teabagger insanity:  a few days ago, when I watched a video that showed teabagger assholes at a town hall meeting, shouting down a disabled woman in a wheelchair.  Like Olbermann says, “Have they no decency?”

The answer is clear:

HOW the HELL does the GOP still have this kind of power??  No mandate, no majority, no house, no senate, no white house, and yet they can still completely fuck up everything the Democrats try to do?  It’s insane.

Like CTZen said in the comments, it’s time to stop kissing ass and start kicking it, Mr. President.

Sicksicksicksicksick

Speaking of sickness and health, and healthcare, specifically mental healthcare, check out this item from the Boston Teabaggers, who are sounding the alarm about the upcoming Obama School Propaganda Brainwashing DeathPanel Nazi Indoctrination Session next week:

Dr. Barack Goebbels Obama, Chief Reichmaster Tuesday September 8, 2009_1252190161048

The deranged gibberish being spewed by these bonkers ‘baggers has escalated into  a kind of feverish and uncontrollable mania.  Nobody has even seen the speech the president intends to give, but never mind that.   All that matters is what they perceive in their fevered imaginations, which have at this point spiraled into gibbering madness — something that didn’t happen 18 years ago when George H.W. Bush visited schools and talked about education policy… as well as some of the same things Obama plans to talk about:

And most striking: Bush laid out goals — to increase the graduation rate, improve student competency and better prepare students for entering school — and said, “Let me know how you’re doing. Write me a letter. I’m serious about this one. Write me a letter about ways you can help us achieve our goals.”

Write the president a letter about ways the kids can help him!??   I think this is where we ask “Um… outrage?  Where was?”

In the overall scheme, I’m thinking that maybe it’s not such a bad idea for these people to keep their kids out of school next Tuesday… and next Wednesday, next Thursday, next Friday, and every day after that for the next 10 years.  With The Stupid running so rampant and strong in their very DNA, the deck is probably insurmountably stacked against them anyway.

What a difference

… an election makes.  “Cut and Run”:  it’s the new “Stay the Course”.

It’s that time of year again… Political Compass time!

In response to a sneering remark made about “socialist authoritarianism” by Our Lady Of The CAPSLOCK, I was compelled to consult the Political Compass to see just who these rabid Socialist Authoritarians really are.   And I agree: Socialist Authoritarianism sucks! Just look at some of the deranged fascist creeps in the Upper Left (Socialist Authoritarian) Quadrant:

Libertarian-wise I haven’t changed, but economically I’m usually a couple of squares to the left of that position.  I suspect it might have to do with answering some of the questions with an “Agree/Disagree” rather than a “Strongly Agree/Disagree”, so hopefully this isn’t part of some hideous migration to the Dark Side.

But if anyone sees me running around with teabags pinned to my hat, you have my permission in advance to make a Citizen’s Arrest and institutionalize me.

Meanwhile, here’s the test:  go for it if you dare, post your results in the comments and I’ll add you to the chart.
