Well, it only has 6 chapters, after all…

… she can’t expect to sell it for the price of a whole book.

All kidding aside though, why start selling it at Half Price the day after it was released?  And only 6 weeks before the final epic gift-giving battle in the War On Christmas?  There are thousands of dull-witted, brain-damaged, stupid-level-red folks out there, the Idiocracy and the Furiosi™, who’d line up all night to buy it at any price, so this price-chopping by Amazon seems a little odd.

UPDATE: Et tu, Borders?  This has to be some kind of mavericky strategy for getting a million seller real quick.

Selling it at half price now will reduce the number of
copies for the remainder tables. Look for the book
on the remainder tables by the new year.

    snobbery.

Torontonian – Ya think? There seems to be a lot of interest in this book, at least in some parts of the world. But you could be right — I can’t think of any other reason for putting it on sale so soon.

Jasper – Why is it snobbery that I see stupidity and call it for what it is? Sorry to say, but it’s true: the great majority of Palin’s fans are intellectually challenged, to say the least.

I think Jasper meant to say that at $14.50 the price is “robbery”.

Well, how do you think Annthrax Coulter’s screeds got to be instant best-sellers every single time?

    JA Baker

The whole episode reminds me of the John Wayne movie
Rio Bravo which went into national release everywhere
    during one week.

They figured that if they saturated the film-going
public in the first week, then they wouldn’t have to
worry about it getting killed by bad reviews.

As with Rio Bravo, so with Going Rogue–get the product
out and snapped up before all the bad reviews come in.

Well Stephen King’s new novel is also selling for $14.50 – 59% off. Dan Brown’s new one is also 59% off and is selling for 12 something. Amazon.ca seems to be discounting books only 40%, from a higher original price point.

They had to slash the price after people discovered it didn’t have an Index and refused to buy it be because any book is useless without an Index.

At least that’s my explanation but I’m biased.

JAB – But do Ann Coulter’s books instantly go on sale like this? It seems to me they do…

And I heard on the radio (EIB) a commercial from Newsmax — they’re selling Palin’s book for $4.44!

I guess if you sell enough of them you can still make good money, but wow. Deep discount or what.

Yeah… or in the case of Palin’s book, before everyone she dumped on in the book starts correcting her version of history.

Okay, I guess it could be just a way of moving product quickly, not related to the book at all. Which makes sense: I couldn’t understand why they’d be discounting it when it’s definitely selling.

    It has an index now!

“And I heard on the radio (EIB) a commercial from Newsmax — they’re selling Palin’s book for $4.44!”

    Should have been $6.66!

I was at Borders in Plattsburgh, NY on Tuesday. The book was 40% off on a big display right as you walked in the store. Bleh…

A HarperCollins insider told The Daily Beast that the book sold a staggering 300,000 copies on the first day alone!!!

    boo-ya!

  17. 17 RealityBites Friday, November 20, 2009 at 7:20 am

How nice for you to know, Jasper, that there are a staggering 300,000 people as stupid as you are.

  18. 18 Bleatmop Friday, November 20, 2009 at 9:16 am

JJ – Why do you insist on persecuting Jasper and all his Palin friends by continually stating that they have a low intelligence? I’m guessing that you do it because she’s a Christian and because she’s a successful woman. I mean, how many Bachelor’s degree in communications from the prestigious U of Idaho do you have? She has seven. Also, you’re jealous that Palin is soooooo good looking (same reason why you hate Prejean).

Why do you hate successful women JJ?

(Sorry. Jasper’s trolling seems to be lacking of late so I thought I’d step it up for him.)

  19. 19 Bleatmop Friday, November 20, 2009 at 9:21 am

300,000 in the first day is impressive? It’s good, I guess. It’s only 8,000,000 than Harry Potter managed in his last book, and he’s a heathen warlock who deserves to be put to death.

Ah…I was actually thinking that they had to slash the price because there was a sticker on it somewhere that said, “Crayons Not Included.”

“… in the case of Palin’s book, before everyone she dumped on in the book starts correcting her version of history.”

She’s got a version of history? She can see it from her front porch??? ;)

  22. 22 Janus Friday, November 20, 2009 at 11:31 am

Bleatmop, re that video: Is that not the same crazy bitch who starred in her own terrorist version of some TV “reality” show in which the mothers traded places for a week, and she traded places with a Wiccan? I don’t watch tv, so I don’t know the show; but the video showed up on YouTube a couple of years ago. Man, what a virago! She had her entire family whimpering for the camera…

BTW, she both right and wrong. Warlocks are not to be trusted. But Harry Potter is not a warlock.

A HarperCollins insider told The Daily Beast that the book sold a staggering 300,000 copies on the first day alone!!!

Oh, I have no doubt Palin’s book will be (at least) a million seller. That was sort of why I was questioning why Amazon, Borders etc. would cut the price.

Good for her! I hope she writes a Part Duh!

  24. 24 JJ Friday, November 20, 2009 at 1:19 pm

SQ – It looks like this is just some seasonal marketing thing, nothing to do with the book itself. It still surprises me they’d do it just before Christmas, but maybe they don’t want to have tons of books in the clearance bins in January. (Which isn’t a reflection on Palin’s book at all.)

Just a misogynist at heart, I guess :P

Actually, I don’t hate Palin at all, there are a lot of things I like about her. I don’t think anyone really “hates” Palin, but that’s a topic for another post ;)

Actually, I bet it would make an awesome colouring book, with Palin as some kind of Supergirl character. Jasper’s parents’ fridge would be covered with his artwork!

bleatmop – Arrrgh, Jesus Camp! Where they train the Christian Soldiers for the next Crusade.

  29. 30 Bleatmop Friday, November 20, 2009 at 7:57 pm

Janus – I’m not sure about the reality show but that clip is from the documentary “Jesus Camp”. If she did do a reality show, I want to know about it. It’d be both awesome and horrible at the same time!
