FIFY

The NatPo’s Jonathan Kay salivates like a wolverine gnawing on a live sheep in today’s unfortunate screed about the demise of the Canadian left, starting with Antonia Z’s column:

There, fixed it for ya.

UPDATE: Okay, about 15 minutes ago there were 34 comments with that article, some of which informed Kay that AZ had been promoted.  Now:

What’s up with that?

UPDATE (Thursday):  Still no comments!?

Even if they dumped the first 34 comments, why haven’t there been any more since?  Normally a hysterical post about Zerb and the “death of the left” would have accrued at least 50 brain-damaged, spittle-flecked snarls from the NatPo’s “regulars” by now.

Wingnuts:  why screen shots were invented.

Awesome to hear Antonia got promoted. I actually started following her on twitter before I knew who she was. True story. I love her tweets but have rarely read any articles by her.

Yeah, a while ago I went there and there were no comments, refreshed it and the comments appeared. But I went back a while later and there were no comments. Maybe Baby Kay got above himself, implying that one of his commenters was Antonia herself.

Maybe they want to avoid another lawsuit, since Andrew Weaver is suing the NP and some of its anonymous commenters: http://www.desmogblog.com/climate-scientist-sues-national-post

    Heh, heh, more popcorn!

The comments seem to be gone. Why does the column say “by Kelly McParland” when it is by Jonathan Kay?

Isn’t it nice, that at his age, he can still work with his Mom? *snark*

I believe that Kelly McParland posted the article written by
Kay. For some reason, the act of posting is a separate
credit. Perhaps McParland has final editorial control and
does the clean-up of punctuation and spelling.

If he weren’t middle aged, I’d say he’d be an overambitious
English major bucking for a real job in the National Pest.

It you go to the National Post today (through the home page) they are taking a survey! *evil grin* I helped them out and you can too!!!!

What I find most interesting is the post slug:

    jonathan-kay-canada-s-left-loses-another-shrieking-voice.aspx

I’m shocked, shocked to find blatant sexism at the NattyPo!

    Oh the irony, the irony.

    http://m.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/torstar-cash-at-hand-leads-canwest-bidding/article1542453/?service=mobile

Sources indicate a bid that includes newspaper owner Torstar Corp. is now emerging as a favourite, since it is expected to involve more cash than other offers.

Among the CanWest assets, Torstar is believed to covet the Financial Post to bolster its flagship paper, the Star.

The “shrieking” bit was the funniest…after all, what’s the National Pest all about, if not shriiiiieeeeeking?

  10. 10 toujoursdan Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 10:28 am

I hope Torstar get Canwest and starts to clean house.

Bleatmop – That’s funny  I’ve been reading her since way back in the day when I lived in Toronto.

She really has a great handle on all the social media stuff, that’s for sure. Adaptable!

    Holly

Maybe they want to avoid another lawsuit

I’m not sure what the reason is… I didn’t see anything that looked actionable in the comments. Certainly not ALL of them. Maybe we should give them the benefit of doubt in this case and assume it’s a glitch?

  13. 13 JJ Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 12:35 pm

SQ – McParland is the editor, the one who decided to change the original title that said “shrieking” voices to “radical” voices

  14. 14 JJ Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 12:36 pm

Torontonian – I think that’s how it works — McParland wipes the drool off.

  15. 15 JJ Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 12:38 pm

SQ – Where is the survey? What’s it about?

  16. 16 JJ Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 12:44 pm

JAB – Actually, I think changing a word in the header to make it a little less insane is a pretty routine editing practice there. I first noticed in one of Barbara Kay’s columns a few months ago.

  17. 17 JJ Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 12:50 pm

    RB – Bwaha!
If Torstar bought it, I wouldn’t mind them keeping it as a conservative paper — just get rid of the drooling wingnuts and keep people like David Frum.

Wouldn’t it be a hoot if Antonia ended up being Jonathan Kay’s boss?

  18. 18 JJ Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 12:52 pm

    Bina

The “shrieking” bit was the funniest

I’ll have to dig up a few more columns where they’ve done this (changed the header and left the original URL)… I know there was one by Barbara Kay that got the same treatment.

  19. 19 JJ Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 12:53 pm

toujoursdan – Who knows, maybe that will be one of Antonia’s future assignments ;)

  20. 20 Reality.Bites Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 5:09 pm

JJ and Dan – the National Post has always been a paper without a market. Its failure is actually a perfect example of market forces in action.

The business elite already has its paper of record in the Globe and Mail, and they aren’t remotely interested in the far-right’s social conservative agenda. Rogers and Bell are probably the world’s largest distributors of hard-core pornography!

Torstar is far more interested in CanWest’s virtual monopoly in all of Canada’s largest markets. The National Post will die under Torstar – and likely any other sane buyer.
