Blame The Feminists

femBy now we’re all familiar with the ugly little blogospheric dust-up that’s been going on lately.  (Dr. Dawg has details.)

Neither side has handled it especially well.  But it’s significant that this is just the latest skirmish in what appears to be three (3) years of ongoing harassment.  There’s something undeniably creepy about a male blogger hassling a female blogger so relentlessly.

But predictably, SUZANNE sees it as an opportunity to slag feminists:

So when a woman is subjected to three (3) years of harassment, it’s somehow the fault of Teh Feminists.  (That’s the kind of thinking that led to this, isn’t it?)

“Feminists don’t speak for me!” bitches SUZANNE for the umpteenth time (today).  Well guess what:  feminists don’t want to speak for you.  Unfortunately, when feminists fought for womens’ rights, they fought for the rights of all women — including the ingrates who’d shit on those rights, blissfully clueless to the irony that even their freedom to blog against feminism is due in some part to… feminism.

And hey, nobody’s forcing anyone to avail themselves of the rights that others have won for them.  It’s all about choice, after all.

This shit makes me hopping mad. And incoherent. We need to work — collectively of course — on some snappy comebacks to ‘feminists don’t speak for me’ or its even worse Palinesque incarnation: ‘I’m a feminist, but I don’t support the more radical aspects’. You know, like access to abortion, equal pay, freedom from violence and harassment, radical shit like that.

Dear gawd that woman is an idiot. Taking the side of a stalker so she can slag “feminists”?

fern hill – “This shit makes me hopping mad.”

It’s a little frustrating because it doesn’t even make any sense. Especially in the context of the situation between PJ and DE. What do feminists have to do with it? Polly may be a feminist, but the stalking and harassment doesn’t seem to have anything to do with her feminism. If anything, he seems to pick on her because she has some problems that she’s (unwisely IMO) shared online.

I thought the anti-feminist diatribe was kind of a weird reaction to have to that situation.

Mike – Seriously. You’d think that, regardless of her opinion of feminism, she’d recognize when a woman is being harassed.

I’m sure Jesus would be impressed with her compassion.

Ugh. Blob Blogging Wingnut never needs an excuse to slag feminists; it’s her bread-and-butter. She gets all kinds of fawning and adulation because of her constant shrieeekkking about feminism.

Those Opus Dei types can’t get enough of her trash talk about feminists. She’s the Canadian Bible Spice, MASSIVE egotism without the spice.

Take that away from her and her blog would be 99% zygote zealotry.

  6. 6 JJ Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at 8:44 pm

deBeauxOs – It’s like an obsession with this chick, “the feminists this, the feminists that”.

It’s ridiculous — the one & only reason she rants against “the feminists” is because one of rights feminism won was the right to reproductive freedom. (Unless she’d actually be okay with making less money than a guy makes for the same job, or being locked out of certain career choices, or being manhandled at work, etc etc etc.)

The silliest thing about her ranting is that she acts as though womens’ rights are being forced on her. Give me a break. If you don’t want them, by all means, don’t take them.

God. Ignorance and meanness in one neat package. I bet she always wanted to hang with the cool (mean) kids in junior high, and now she’s got her chance. I’m tired of all that “I don’t need feminism, I’ve always had the power, this is the way I am.”
Ya. Go try that schtick out in some country that hasn’t experienced an influential feminist movement.

Oh, brebis, I cannot tell you how much I would enjoy dropping that cunned stunt into the middle of Iran.

Y’all haven’t figured out yet that the little sugar-plum nutbar is actually a feminist, herself?

Mind you, she’s a peculiar kind of feminist — a combination dominatrix and masochist at the same time, with delusions of adequacy and dreams of unstoppable power over others, but she’s a feminist all the same.

    She’s just crazy.

It’s why I don’t go over there anymore.

  10. 10 JJ Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 6:17 pm

brebis – Apparently she used to consider herself a feminist, but parted ways with feminism for religious reasons (Catholicism being very patriarchal).

That’s okay, to each his own, but I don’t get the denial of what feminism has accomplished for women. I think maybe it’s because she’s too young to remember when getting your ass slapped as you walked down the hallway at the office was just something women had to put up with. (It couldn’t have been just where I worked!!!)

  11. 11 JJ Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 6:23 pm

Gigi – Other than the Muslim aspect of things, I suspect she’d be quite comfortable living in a theocracy with religious laws governing every aspect of private life. It’s easier that way.

  12. 13 JJ Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 6:29 pm

chimera – She says she used to be a feminist, but I can’t see her as one now.

Feminism is basically about equality and freedom for women, things she clearly doesn’t believe in. (Particularly reproductive freedom and sexual freedom, but even equality in things like equal pay for equal work — just doesn’t believe in it.)

She’s a feminist like Gwen Landolt is a feminist.

  13. 14 JJ Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 6:44 pm

JAB – That’s “REAL Women” propaganda, that women make the same as men for the same work, always. They’re looking at it from a “grand total” point of view — women make less money than men because more women choose to be waitresses and store clerks, while men choose to be lawyers and doctors.

It’s a bullshit comparison because it’s not what “equal pay for equal work” is about. I don’t expect to be paid the same as a lawyer for what I do. However, I know for a fact that when I was in advertising I was making less than the guy in the next office, who had the same experience and skill (and wasn’t nearly as hard a worker as I was). That’s what equal pay for equal work is about. But it’s an inconvenient truth to people like SUZANNE.

Brace yourself, JJ! Suzie-All-Caps now has a five post manifesto on why feminists are evil so-and-sos who deserve to be the first against the wall when the theocratic revolution comes. And the post that serves as the “Table of Contents” mentions you!

  15. 17 JJ Friday, December 12, 2008 at 4:36 pm

MOI??? But but I got booted from the Best Feminist Category, surely I’m a bad example of all that’s evil in Feminism.

  16. 18 Jennifer Friday, December 12, 2008 at 5:53 pm

So glad I found your blog!!!!!

I’m the “Jennifer” that she’s been pissing and moaning about for ….what..three days now???

  17. 19 JJ Friday, December 12, 2008 at 7:55 pm

Jennifer – Oh hai! 😛 You got her motor running! Did you see the Magnum Opus she did today? Holy shit! “What’s Wrong With Feminism — In 5 Delusional Parts” It’s quite… uh… words fail me.

  18. 20 JJ Friday, December 12, 2008 at 7:57 pm

PS Jennifer – the link is 2 comments up, in JA Baker’s comment. Prepare to have your mind blown.

Oh I saw……… I was writing a blog about it, but decided against it.

She really needs to dorn her big girl pants and get over it.

But yes, she must tell us over and over again how she is totally against everything feminism stands for…

Excuse me, I have to go laugh hysterically again….

come hang out at my blog any ol’ day.

Also, I find it amusing that I’m crossing swords with a couple of conservative Canadians.
    Rather than American Conservatives.

    Have a great night!
