Kill Granny

kill-granny

The GOP’s demented fearmongering about health care reform goes on and on.   “Birthers” became “Deathers” as Obama’s Evil Plan to Kill Old People was exposed! by a GOP congressman on the prestigious Alex Jones show (between discussions about Obama’s birth certificate, the New World Order and what really happened on 9/11).   Where does it all end?  With Obama’s foul plan to Kill Granny?:

A campaign on conservative talk radio, fueled by President Obama’s calls to control exorbitant medical bills, has sparked fear among senior citizens that the health-care bill moving through Congress will lead to end-of-life “rationing” and even “euthanasia.”

The controversy stems from a proposal to pay physicians who counsel elderly or terminally ill patients about what medical interventions they would prefer near the end of life and how to prepare instructions such as living wills.  […]

But on right-leaning radio programs, religious e-mail lists and Internet blogs, the proposal has been described as “guiding you in how to die,” “an ORDER from the Government to end your life,” promoting “death care” and, in the words of antiabortion leader Randall Terry, an attempt to “kill Granny.

Aw geez, you just had to know that deranged spittle-flecked jackoff and Maestro of Malapropism Terry would be somehow involved.   To a batshit insane theocratic nutcase who detests the idea of people (okay, women) exercising self-determination at any time during their lives, the concept of choosing and preparing for one’s own permanent checkout must be intolerable.  Who could forget the Terry Schiavo travesty?  He was at the bottom of that one, too.  Now he’s needlessly scaring the shit out of little old ladies to keep them from getting access to universal healthcare… way to keep it classy, Randall!

And sadly, the Kill Granny campaign isn’t where it ends — this will get a lot worse before it gets better.  Fasten your seatbelts and have the barf bags handy!

Wasn’t it “The Pot Party”‘s head trog that suggested putting us olde folke on ice floes as part of his platform?

I’d google it myself but I spend my spare time collecting blankets….just in case.

Many anti-choicers argue that it is fine for them to ignore the 50% or so of fetuses that spontaneously miscarry because they are being allowed to expire. Many of those same people are also raising sh*t about health care reform for like the “kill granny” reasons, when what is really happening is care eing reduced in cases that have little chance of recovery/survival being diverted to s larger number of cases that have a greater chance of survival/recovery. But doesn’t this reveal a major inconsistency in their reasoning? If the miscarried embryos being allowed to expire is a not problem, why then is allowing some older folks with terminal illnesses to be given reduced futile care and be allowed to expire a problem?

Rob – I think being anti-choice means living with contradictions. Remember the Terry Schiavo fiasco: they would have kept that feeding tube hooked up and kept her “alive” indefinitely, using resources that could have been diverted to people who, as you point out, actually had a hope. But anti-choicers don’t look at that. They choose their own reality in a lot of ways.

Some of them are fond of referring to fetuses as “citizens”, screaming on their blogs that “X number of citizens died last year by abortion!”. Whenever I point out that since a baby is a citizen of wherever it happens to be born, by definition fetuses can’t be “citizens” of anywhere, it usually kills the thread 😆

Wait. What?
