This Obama school speech thing is turning out to be snark bait of the highest order:

    Thought that looked familiar:

Still one of the best movie snits going.

Ahhhh! So that’s where I saw it… I was wondering 😉 Canadian ingenuity, yes!

    Terrific writing in that!
    It actually made me laugh!

Torontonian – Yeah it was cool, eh?

Whatever you do, don’t ever change your IP address — I’d hate to think what would happen if you lost your beloved avatar! 😉 (Of course, you could always save the image and go to gravatar.com and register it as your personal gravatar! Then it would show up everywhere, not just here.)

It just dawned on me, after watching the speech, why so many wingnuts can’t stand to hear Obama speak. He’s mentioned a few times that his mother was a single mom for many years, struggling and eventually succeeding in a career.

These particular wingnuts don’t like to hear the kind of story where the kid from a single-parent family makes good – not unless it’s a story that explicitly attributes all of his survival and success to the Christian god.

He just doesn’t have the kind of narrative arc that resonates with them, and in fact it includes a lot of elements that contradict their values.

brebis – Good observation, I hadn’t thought of that. I was just assuming it was their basic racism coming out, but there could be more to it than that. Obama’s backstory definitely doesn’t fit the wingnut narrative — they talk a pretty good game about “the land of opportunity” where anyone can succeed, but who do they mean by “anyone”?

It would be different if Obama was a Republican. Look at Bristol Palin.

    Good morrow, all!
    Shagging brilliant!
It ranks with, “Which one of you idiots left that newspaper out for the President to read?”
“Ve must keep der people ignorant unt shtupid. If ve do not, if der people hear der verds of Der Prezident, dey might belief him. Dey might shtart dinking for demsleves. Dat vould be…Gotterdammerung!”

    Good morrow, all!
The state vegetable of Idaho is the potato(e)(just in case Dan Quayle may be reading this)
The state vegetable of Washington is serving in the 27th Congressional District.
“Suppose, sir, that you were an idiot, and suppose, sir, that you were a member of Congress, But, then, I repeat myself.” – Mark Twain.
Apart from Jimmy Carter building houses for poor and disadvantaged people all over the world, have you ever heard of a former politician actually holding down a steady job?
A lot of people have been bandying the idea around that Obama is already a lame duck, that even his party would not support his re-nomination.
Arnold Schwarenzegger — ran in special election to replace Gray Davis as governor of California. Managed to alienate just about every group that had seen him as an improvement on Davis. Lame duck. Dead duck.
Yeah, right. Sat down with unions and teachers and workers and such. Got the message two years into his first term. Won handily in his second election. Lame duck? Pull the other one.
Let’s watch Da Prez. He just might surprise a lot of people.
So did Abe Lincoln – CTZen

Wait. What?
