Here’s what Fox News, every teabagger’s favourite source of infromation, had to say about the (for some reason still widely-debated) number of teabaggers who hit the streets in DC on Saturday for Beckapalooza:
The tens of thousands of protesters marched to the U.S. Capitol chanting various slogans and waving posters that voiced a rather broad array of grievances against big government and the leaders, particularly President Obama, who the protesters blame for its size and scope.
Glenn Beck’s deranged ravings notwithstanding, if anyone would inflate the size of the teabaggers’ march it would be Fox News, given that they all but sponsored the thing. So their report of “tens of thousands” (not “hundreds of thousands” or “millions”) of protesters should put all the silly speculation and “liberal media” conspiracy theories to rest.
Frankly, I don’t understand why right-wingnuts would be unhappy with a turnout of 70,000 — that’s a respectable showing for any protest. As I mentioned in a previous post, I once went to a Who concert that drew 72,000, and it’s a fuck of a lot of people. It’s not a million, but so what?
Then again, when 90 95 99% of the participants are batshit insane, it probably seems like a lot more. That concert of 72 thousand seemed like 72 million…

Rupert Murdoch is trying to be William Randolph Hearst. He’s coming off more like Charles Foster Kane. Citizen Murdoch figures that The Big Lie worked for Hitler, so why not here?
Murdoch is pissed because he does not own Obama, so he has to destroy him.

There would have been more people but some of them ran out of gas and couldn’t figure out what to do next. Others had their maps upside down and ended up on the Gulf Coast.
It was all reminiscent of the Upper Class Twit of the Year Award sketch from Monty Python, wasn’t it?
There was a comment at Huffington Post(?) that said that it looked like a trailer park exploded on The Mall.

I’d be surprised these people even remember anything about Georgie. They certainly don’t remember how he shredded their beloved Constitution. Or intruded on citizens’ private lives by spying on them without warrants. Or spent like a drunken sailor, mortgaged the country to China (god forbid they ever call in that debt), lied to start a war that killed thousands of people, turned the US dollar into monopoly money, etc. etc.
Being a wingnut means having a selective memory.
CTZen – Oddly enough, this appears to be one situation where Fox isn’t lying — the prevailing crowd estimate among most of the media is 60-70,000, possibly 75,000.
Maybe Fox, like me, didn’t think 70,000 was anything to be ashamed of. (Obviously in this particular case there were a hell of a lot of other things to be ashamed of than the size of the turnout.)
