Reckless rhetoric

Rachel Maddow and her guest Frank Schaeffer comment on the continuing reckless rhetoric, including imprecatory prayer, of the unhinged right:

Vodpod videos no longer available.
Seriously!  T-shirts, Hats, Ties, Coffee Mugs, Mouse Pads, even Pet Clothing, all calling for the death of the “unjust tyrant”.  These people are whacked!

We have hate laws in Canada and I believe there are some types of hate laws in the US.

I find it painful to believe that some people could be so desirous of hurting the president and his family. Even worse,
is the fact that apparently nothing is being done to silence
    these people.

I keep saying it: I’m so glad I live north of the border.

I pity my friends in the US. The world’s supposed leader
among nations in seriously crippled and lamed and not
    admitting it.

Frank Schaeffer — the fundy who came to his senses — has a book to sell (he’s very smooth about it, isn’t he?) but I believe that he is sincere in his fear. He says there are 22 million conservative fundamentalists. They’re not crazy, just deluded, he says. Yabbut, how many are deluded AND crazy?

The worst job in the US at the moment? Secret Service people protecting Obama.

American conservative fundamentalists are every bit as dangerous as islamic fundamentalists as they plot and scheme to hurry up the rapture and the second coming and try to impose their will on the rest of us.

Aaaand Jasper’s tiny mind has somehow managed to degenerate even further. He can now only manage single word posts.

He has finally managed to lower his IQ below earthworm.

    Someone throw him a party.

yes, I’m terrified of all those christian bombers…

    Good morrow, all!
    With apologies to Dorothy Parker:

If the conservatives of their day
    Had all had their way
We would all still be living in trees
    Just swing through
    And flinging our poo
And picking out each other’s fleas

    “Harold! Junior’s walking upright again!”
“Get back down on all fours, you! Geez! Kids these days! Got no respect for traditions!”

“Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent” – Isaac Asimov

The rabid right wingers sing out in chorus against change, because change has favored and benefited such inferior people, such as women, gays, non-whites, non- Christians, all of whom have been marginalized by straight white male Christians.
Their sense of entitlement in the eyes of God, as taught to them by their political (from the Greek, politikos, “stupid with money”) and religious (from the Greek, religios, “really stupid with money”) leaders is outraged that anybody who is not white, straight, male and Christian would dare, DARE to presume to have ANY RIGHTS WHATSOEVER!
I am male, straight, white and was born and raised a Roman Catholic. But (to paraphrase Lewis Black) I have thoughts.

I’m with Jasper on this one, I’m terrified of those “christian” bombers as well.

For instance, from the Religious Tolerance website (http://www.religioustolerance.org/abo_viol.htm) comes this introduction:

Frequent violent protests against abortion clinics, in the form of arson, firebombing, and vandalism, started in the early 1970’s in the U.S. after the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Roe v. Wade theoretically gave abortion access to all women — at least during their first trimester.

Then, as now, most of the violence appears to be mainly criminal activities by individual religiously-motivated individuals acting alone. However, cases in the 1990s involving the assassination and attempted murder of abortion providers in both the U.S. and Canada have shown that some perpetrators appear to have been sheltered by a network of sympathizers. That shows a degree of organization and conspiracy.

The compiled statistics show, that not counting the murders they have done, nor the assaults, blockades or even the number of false bomb threats, there were a total of 179 actual bombings of clinics from 1989 to 2004.

Just to be nice, I won’t even mention the Catholic Timothy McVeigh.

So you see, Jasper and I agree that there is a danger from these “christians”.

Jasper, so where the fuck in my post did I mention christen bombers? I guess we have nothing to fear from groups like the KKK, army of god, branch davididians and others who are stockpiling weapons as we speak. Although the religious right has not resorted to suicide bombings (yet), they do their dirty work behind the scenes, intimidating politicians, brainwashing youth (Liberty U ) etc.

  12. 14 Phatbiker Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 4:10 pm

So what would the USA be like if the religious right had their way? Let’s see now.

    – Roe vs Wade overturned (no choise for woman)
    – Back to the closet for gays (sodomy laws brought back)
    – I.D. taught in schools (evolution forbidden)
    – Manditory prayer in schools
    – contraception forbidden
    – Sex ed in schools forbidden
    – Only “good” christens would be allowed to run for public office
    – Welfare, unemployment insurence and other social programs ended (you would have to suckhole up to some church if you needed help).
    – Forget about universal health care
    – Forget about legalizing marijuana (no med pot)
    – Forget about shopping on Sunday (or even playing golf)
    – Strict limits on non-christen immigration
    – Manditory bible camps for children (kind of like Hitler youth with bibles)
    – Media and free speech severely censored (no more Playboy etc.)
    – Only “bible friendly science” allowed (world is only 6000 years old etc.)
    – Atheists rounded up and sent to “reeducation” camps or imprisoned
Did I miss anything Jasper or anyone?

  13. 15 JJ Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 4:48 pm

Phatbiker – Sounds about right to me!

And it would only get worse once they settled in and got used to being in power… unwanted pregnancies would be dealt with by locking the women up in Birthing Facilities. Once born, the babies would be immediately shipped to Jesus Camp, where they’d undergo 18 years of training to be be an elite army of Christian Soldiers for the next Crusade.

The government would have a Ministry of Virtue & Vice, like the Taliban, with Morality Cops who would go from house to house checking on everyone to make sure there was no “immoral” activity going on.

    Sound good to you, Jasper?

  14. 16 JJ Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 4:55 pm

Steve – That’s right, these people have been dangerous for decades. It’s only because they aren’t very organized that they’re not regarded as a serious terrorist threat.

But, when guys are willing to risk the death penalty for shooting doctors, it’s only a matter of time before they start doing suicide bombings. They may not be as organized as al qaeda, but the will is there, and their mentality is the the same.

  15. 17 JJ Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 4:57 pm

CTZen – Excellent and well-said, as usual. Thanks!

    Jasper, I missed a few:

-Divorce, almost impossable to get one
    -Adultery severly punished
    -Slavery ok (Leviticus 25:44-46)
-Woman must dress modestly in public by law

To bad your not a moslem Jasper, sounds like you would be much happier in Iran or Saudi Arabia.

  20. 22 Cornelius T.Zen Friday, November 20, 2009 at 8:18 am

    Good morrow, all!
Jasper – Yeah, sounds like one round would be all you could stand. At least, it would get you out of that dark alley you seem to like so much.
Phatbiker – Jasper makes one of my points better than I do:
We do not serve the future by worshipping the past.
All of the advances of science and society have been made in the face of the naked firepower of the conservatives of the world.
The Catholic Church had to burn heretics to protect the faith of their flock. Hitler had to gas and burn Jews to protect his Aryan fatherland.
Does God mean for us to spend our future with the mindset of brain-baked nomads in the Arabian desert?
Or do we all sing that wonderful song from Cabaret: “Tomorrow Belongs To Me”
Jasper, worship your small, petty, paranoid, schizophrenic, bipolar, sociopathic God. May that God bring you much comfort.
The God I consider and ponder upon made the stars, and the neutrinos, and all things inbetween, and He took His Time.
The past is to learn from, not to live in.
    Shalom, y’all – CTZen

  21. 23 Dr. Prole Friday, November 20, 2009 at 9:19 am

Well there you have it, Jasper wants contraception forbidden. I assume you mean ALL contraception, so no cheating with the rhythm method – all sexual acts MUST give the chance of fertilization.

Jasper, I hope your wife’s body can handle the constant state of pregnancy, and let’s keep our fingers crossed that the expensive private junk insurance you love so much keeps covering all the pre- and post-natal care for her and all your many many children. I also hope you get a fat raise at your job because a family of 10+ kids is going to be really expensive. Good luck! You’d have felt right at home in Ceausescu’s Romania.

I guess you could always abstain and take your sinful urges into your own hands. From what I hear there’s lots of hot footage online of nubile beauty queens with upstanding Christian values masturbating.

Jasper wrote: “contraception forbidden (Yes, except when medically needed)”

WTF?!?! You want contraception to be illegal? That’s so messed up….

“Sex ed in schools forbidden (Yes)”

With contraception being illegal what would the point of sex-ed be anyway? Might as well yank it (no pun intended.)

“Forget about shopping on Sunday (Yes)”

That evil evil sunday shopping. Can’t you here jesus crying at the idea? 😉

Fuck Jasper – you’re one seriously messed up dude.

  24. 26 Joe Agnost Friday, November 20, 2009 at 11:49 am

“Hear” jesus crying, not “here” him. Jeez!

“Well there you have it, Jasper wants contraception forbidden. I assume you mean ALL contraception, so no cheating with the rhythm method – all sexual acts MUST give the chance of fertilization.”

    Hi Dr. Prole,

I would only make artificial concracetion illegal. Natural family planning would be encouraged. The Catholic church doesn’t except women to deliver 10 children. I only have 2.

    Janus,

    Are you married to Cornelius?

  26. 28 Dr. Prole Friday, November 20, 2009 at 1:43 pm

Don’t make me laugh. We both know this is bullshit:

“The Catholic church doesn’t except women to deliver 10 children.”

But they expect a 9-yr old rape victim to continue a twin pregnancy that would kill her!

Wait. What?
