Conservapedia 3 years old today

Can you believe it was 3 whole years ago that Conservapedia dragged its knuckles onto the internet?   Tempus fugit:

Conservapedia, launched on November 21, 2006, is a conservative, family-friendlyWiki encyclopedia. It was founded by teacher and attorney Andrew Schlafly with the help of several students from his fall 2006 World History class.  […]

When a student handed in her paper using the date-markers “BCE” and “CE” from Wikipedia, Schlafly realized that Wikipedia, despite its claim of neutrality, contained bias against the achievements of Christianity and conservatism. Other occasions of liberal bias, including the reversion of factual edits about the 2005 Kansas Evolution Hearings, led to the creation and launch of Conservapedia.

Conservapedia:  celebrating three years of assuring wingnuts that they’re entitled not only to their own opinions, but to their own facts.

It’s worth noting that that 2006 ‘World History’ class being taught by the good Mr. Schlafly was actually a ‘Home Schooling’ class.

I like Conservapedia and CARM. It gives conservative dimwits a place to go to get copy and paste material and that makes it very easy to call them on said copy and pasting.

  3. 3 JJ Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 1:07 pm

RossK – That’s right, the “class” was home-skooling 🙄 In the bizarro world of Conservapedia, home-skooling qualifies one to be a “teacher”.

    Good grief.

Bleatmop – 😆 Right, you’ve already pinched Jasper cut and pasting from Conservapedia, haven’t you? HA!

  5. 5 Bleatmop Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 1:37 pm

JJ- I haven’t caught Jasper quoting from those sources, but he does copy and paste. I have noticed more than one blogging tory relying heavily on Carm and conservapedia, especially in their forum. There is one guy on there that just LOVES the “it takes more faith to be an atheist” argument, though at least he had the good sense to paraphrase rather than direct copy and paste. At least I can’t accuse him of being lazy. Well, at least not physically as he did type out his paraphrasing; intellectually though is a different story.

One of my favourite conservapedia entry is its statistics page, where one can see its most viewed articles, which are: (1) Main Page 6,028,000; (2) Atheism 4,816,509; (3) Homosexuality 3,420,879; (4) Essay:Conservapedia’s Law 1,812,493; (5) Barack Hussein Obama 1,242,161; (6) Wikipedia 825,034; (7) Sarah Palin 718,781; (8) Adolf Hitler 684,005; (9) Liberal 624,130; (10) Examples of Bias in Wikipedia 603,362.

Buckets – I like Examples of Moronic Vandalism by the “Tolerant” the best. Some good stuff in there.

The best stuff was created after Wonkette readers found out about Conservapedia, and hundreds of them signed up for accounts and started editing. I had an account myself for awhile, but they finally deleted it after I edited the “Dick Cheney” entry to add that his hobbies include shooting old men in the face.

That’s so unfair of you JJ.

Just because you’re good at something doesn’t mean it’s a hobby.

    Happy Birthday, douchebags!

  10. 10 JJ Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 9:17 pm

RB – Well, I don’t know how good he was at it. His target’s still standing.

  11. 11 JJ Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 9:19 pm

Dr.Prole – They Poe up so fast.

JJ, I feel like celebrating with jumbo prawn skewers for some reason…

    Happy Birthday to you.
    Happy Birthday to you.
Happy Birthday to you ultra conservatively biased interlinked series of Web pages that has more fiction then Wookiepedia.
    Happy Birthday to you.

Sorry it’s a little off-key, never was very good at rythum.

  14. 14 Cornelius T.Zen Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 9:18 am

    Good morrow, Shade!
“…never was very good at rythum.”
    Or spelling. It’s “rhythm”
Or did I just get snarked? – CTZen

    Dr.Prole – Mmmmmmm sweet and sour fetus! 😯 😛

  16. 16 JJ Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 2:56 pm

CTZen – In the Conservapedia context, it’s “rythum” 😆

  17. 17 Shade Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 3:07 pm

    Cornelius

Yeah I always have trouble spelling Rhythm, my brain keeps telling me there should be a U in there. I realised my mistake after posting but well no edit button.

  18. 18 Bleatmop Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 3:38 pm

Shade – I use firefox because of my abysmal spelling. It has a spell check built right into it. I think it makes me appear much smarter than I really am.

  19. 19 Shade Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 6:50 pm

I use Firefox too Bleatmop, just don’t have the spell check enabled. My spelling is ussually pretty good, but mistakes will happen and the word Rhythm always gives me trouble, I should’ve known to check that one.

  20. 20 Frank Frink Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 6:55 pm

As a musician I can appreciate the difficulty spelling ‘rhythm’. As Son House (you should look him up) said to the audience at one of the mid-60s Newport Folk Festivals, “Now that’s the blues. B-L-U-S-E.” 😉

JJ, anyone can shoot someone in the face and kill them. It takes real talent to shoot someone in the face and have them live.

  22. 22 Cornelius T.Zen Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 9:01 pm

    Good morrow, all!
JJ: As the man said after his first visit to the chiropractor:
    I stand corrected.
Rythum it is. They should know. It’s how God would spell it, if He bothered with spelung.
Shade: If spelling, grammar and syntax don’t mean anything to Jasper, it’s ’cause God wants it that way. And who are we to argue with The Big Guy Up In The Sky?
Frank Frink: Gotta pay yer dues if you wanna sing da blooz
And ya know it don’t come easy
RB: Yeah, but the guy nearly gave Cheney a heart attack, popping up like a quail outa nowhere. Pity.
As ever, your humble servant – CTZen

    😆 😆 😆 😆

    Thank you, RB

  24. 24 JJ Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 9:39 pm

    Good morrow, CTZen 😉

We somehow manage to interpret Jasper’s spelling after he’s been hitting the Communion wine, so I think we’re well prepared to forgive tiny contraventions of the Spelling Laws here and there.

Why, just the other day, I typed “its” when I meant “it’s” 😯

  25. 25 Bleatmop Monday, November 23, 2009 at 7:04 am

Shade, my apologies, though I’m glad you don’t suffer the same issue I do. Some days I wish I had a spell checker at work for my hand writing as it would save me some time looking up words for spelling.

Wait. What?
