The American Taliban in action

The Catholic church has always carried an absurd amount of political clout in the US. For evidence, look no further than their recent attempt to stick their noses into the health care debate and use health care reform as an opportunity to limit access to abortion, something they still haven’t given up on.   Catholic mullahs routinely employ bullying, blackmail and threats to bend politicians to their anti-woman, anti-gay will.

The latest victim of ecclesiastical strong-arming is Rep.Patrick Kennedy, who was banned from taking communion because of his pro-choice voting record.  The Church Enforcer who perpetrated Kennedy’s punishment appeared on Hardball yesterday, where Chris Matthews explained the concept of church and state separation, why Catholic bishops shouldn’t be meddling in politics, and oooooh, he went there! and asked the question every anti-choicer hates because they can’t answer it:

W00t! Matthews had him, didn’t he?

I just love to watch sanctimonious arseholes squirm.

    Thanks for that, JJ.

    Matthews made good points.

Where do church officials get off telling Catholic legislators to make Cathlic rules applicable to non-Cathlics?

I like how he said that Oh no, they weren’t trying to impose the Catholic point of view of people… not much! Trying to force politicians to vote from the Catholic POV, ie. against abortion, is totally imposing that POV on people who don’t buy it.

What an asshole! Maybe he should just forget about abortion and deal with the child molesting priests that run rampant throughout the catholic church. (Could that be why they’re against abortion — more kiddies to diddle?)

JJ – Any lost and neglected child will never be lost for long in the catholic church.

    Good morrow, all!

You know you’ve done your job when professional outrage maven Bill Donohue flips his shit over something you’ve said. Congratulations, Chris Matthews, you are our hero for today!

    Fair enough! HA! – J. A. Baker

(I hope CTZen won’t mind me borrowing his shtick for a bit! 😆 )

JAB – YAY! Bill Donohue is going batshit (not for the first time, though — not even the first time TODAY, probably).

  9. 9 JJ Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 8:26 pm

bleatmop – Suffer the little children, eh? Big time.

No kidding. That man would scream about anti-Catholic bias if Starbucks got his order wrong.

  11. 11 J. A. Baker Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 8:31 pm

Er, let me phrase that better. Bill Donohue would scream about anti-Catholic bias at Starbucks for getting his order wrong.

  12. 12 JJ Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 9:54 pm

    JAB – BWAHAHA!

Hey, I loved this interview so much I’ve watched it 3 and a half times. So I can just imagine how it must have driven Donohue into a full-metal purple-faced eye-bulging vein-popping face-twitching frenzy.

Hope he goes on Hardball soon!

Chris Mattehews gets his 15 minutes of fame for an eternity in hell.

    Good morrow, all!
Ay, J.A. Baker, youse gotta remember – when youse borrow my bit, youse gotta cover the vig, capishe? Fuhgedaboutit!
Jasper: Jesus had a few choice words for people like the good bishop. Those people had rocks in their hands. Today’s Pharisees have rocks elsewhere. I’m sure you are all warm with nostalgia for those moments with the local Father in the confessional.
    Mote, meet plank.
