Census worker death a suicide

The investigation into the mysterious death of Bill Sparkman has ruled that Sparkman’s death was a suicide:

Census worker Bill Sparkman committed suicide and deliberately made it look like murder as part of an insurance scam, Kentucky state police have concluded.

State police, working with the FBI, said at a press conference moments ago that Sparkman had recently taken out two life insurance policies that would not pay out for suicide. It appears Sparkman hoped that the scheme would benefit his son, Josh Sparkman.

It was initially feared that Sparkman was the victim of anti-government sentiment driven by the furious right-wing hate rhetoric that’s been escalating since Obama took office, in much the same way as Dr. George Tiller’s murder was driven by insane anti-abortion hyperbole and demonization.

Although wingnuts will no doubt be whining for apologies, the conclusion that Sparkman wasn’t murdered because of right-wing extremism doesn’t change the fact that there’s something seriously rotten happening when such a motive would even be considered… and it’s something they are helping to perpetuate.

I just can’t believe it is actually staged?… but if it is, then that was a wrong decision — wrong at all. Condolences to his family.

  2. 2 J. A. Baker Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 6:48 pm

Now watch, the wingnuts will start shrieeeking Bill Sparkman is Obama’s Vince Foster.

    Excuse me while I puke…

  3. 3 JJ Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 7:20 pm

Translator – Yes, it’s awful. Apparently there were some big insurance policies that would have paid out about half a million $ if Sparkman had been murdered, so he staged it to look that way. Awful. I feel sorry for his family.

  4. 4 JJ Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 7:28 pm

JAB – Malkin’s already screaming “When will the left retract the census worker smear???” (shrieeeeek)

I hope nobody retracts anything or apologizes for fuck all. I don’t see why anyone should. The fault for this even being considered a motive rests squarely on the shoulders of right wing whackos like Malkin and their cranked up hate rhetoric, on top of the 4 or 5 murders already done by right wingnuts in the past year.

  5. 5 bleatmop Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 7:38 pm

Poor guy. I wonder what drove him over the edge.

  6. 6 JJ Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 7:47 pm

bleatmop – Who knows, eh? You wouldn’t think that someone who’s determined enough to go through cancer treatment would be a suicide risk. It seems to have been all about the insurance money, but no amount of money is worth losing a loved one 😦

  7. 8 bleatmop Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 8:04 pm

JJ – I would imagine the insurance money was made to try and pay some sort of debt. Health care bills? Mafia debt? Is there a difference?

  8. 9 J. A. Baker Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 8:05 pm

JAB – Malkin’s already screaming “When will the left retract the census worker smear???” (shrieeeeek)

I’ve stopped making MalKKKin’s hit counter spin. I already know pretty much what she’s going to say on a given subject, and frankly, I don’t need the spike in my blood pressure.

It’s the same reason why I’ve stopped visiting Suzie-All-Caps.

  9. 10 JJ Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 8:13 pm

Dr.Prole – I know 😦 I’m glad it wasn’t a wingnut — they’ve already racked up a body count and one more would probably just get them even more paranoid and berserk than they are already — but it’s very sad to hear it was suicide.

  10. 11 JJ Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 8:18 pm

bleatmop – I haven’t had a chance to read much on it yet, but I read somewhere that there might have been some debt. I never thought of the health care angle — I wonder if he got turned down for coverage. Cancer treatment would run into the 100s of thousands of $$$.

No, there’s not much difference between Manny the Loanshark and Cigna, except at least Manny would only break someone’s kneecaps, not necessarily kill them.

  11. 12 JJ Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 8:22 pm

JAB – I never read Malkin, I had to google her to find her site. I knew she’d be screaming blue murder, though, and sure enough, she’s completely demented, screaming at Andrew Sullivan to apologize (even though he never said it *was* wingnuts, just that it *might be*).

God, that woman is an idiot.

Heh — I haven’t been to SUZANNE’s blog for months. Once she started comment mod I totally lost interest.

    You’re full of shit JJ.

Jasper, good Christians don’t words like shit, not in public anyways. Go wash your keyboard off for Jesus. Unless of course you’ve just let on that you’re not a real one, as I’ve suspected all along…

  14. 15 Cornelius T.Zen Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 7:59 am

    Good morrow, all!
I find it interesting that the authorities strove so mightily to “prove” that Sparkmans’s death was a suicide. If it had been a murder, would they have striven as mightily to find the culprit? After all, the man worked for the federal government, as a census worker, and, according to Michelle Malkin, the census is nothing more than an evil government plot to round dissenters and put them in detention camps. To her way of “thinking,” however he died, somebody did the cause of the wingnuts a service.
Jasper – “You’re full of shit, JJ”
How very Christian of you to say so. What a wonderful example for the more impressionable of JJ’s blog readers. What a shining inspiration for those whose faith may be ever so slightly threatened by the vile, evil, bigoted and morally bankrupt opinions expressed herein. God bless you and keep you – far away from the grownups that speak here. Keep us posted on how that toilet-training is coming along, won’t you?

    Good morrow, all!
In my haste, I have erred. Mea maxima culpa.
I meant to refer to Michelle BACHMAN, and her paranoia about detention camps and the census.
On the other hand, the Two Michelles shriek so much alike, I’m sure you may be able to forgive the error.

Further to the point that it is credible to assume that it may have been a right wing lunatic murdering this poor guy – Sparkman himself tried to fool the police and insurance company investigators by trying that exact ruse. I would imagine he chose that not because it was unlikely that it could happen, but in fact that it was quite possible that it could happen.

  17. 18 RAFE Thursday, November 26, 2009 at 8:11 pm

Always good to hear from the mighty CTZen.
You’re kind of like the leader of these whack jobs I’ve noticed.

I’m sorry for you but, man you lefties are a strange bunch.

  18. 19 The Anti-Social Socialist Thursday, November 26, 2009 at 8:15 pm

“man you lefties are a strange bunch.”

Coming from someone who worships people who scream and rant about freedom all the time while doing everything in their power to restrict the rights and freedoms of everyone else…

    Yeah, go fuck yourself, pal.

  19. 20 RAFE Thursday, November 26, 2009 at 8:29 pm

I meant to say strange AND unhinged.
I guess it didn’t take much to prove my statement true.

Thanks for reminding me of the skewered view of reality you loons so comfortably possess.

Lovely way to express yourself by the way…

  20. 21 Dr. Prole Thursday, November 26, 2009 at 8:50 pm

LOL don’t ya love it when someone comes around, calls regulars here a bunch of whack jobs, and then gets all miffed when he’s told to go fuck himself? What did you expect, rafe, the welcome wagon? TFF.

  21. 22 Shade Thursday, November 26, 2009 at 9:12 pm

Unhinged? That’s funny coming from someone on the side who have actually murdered people to further their ideals. Yet you hail the murderers as some great champion instead of reprimanding them and insisting that they are punished for their crime.

And RAFE, from what I can see everyone here thinks for themselves unlike most conservatives, ranting about things they have no proof to support.

Also a tip, if you want civilty, don’t open with an insult.

  22. 23 Bleatmop Thursday, November 26, 2009 at 10:07 pm

I thought JJ was our leader and CTZen was just her muscle man enforcing all our liberislamofeminazifascist ideology and destroying any who stray from it? Or perhaps I was wrong. If I was, please spare me, I have 3 kitties and a wife to support.

  23. 24 JJ Thursday, November 26, 2009 at 10:25 pm

Oh hi RAFE… I’ve got a question for you:

What’s up with wingnuts and the capslock key? 😯

  24. 25 JJ Thursday, November 26, 2009 at 10:30 pm

Dr.Prole – 😆 Lots of nutz around lately

RAFE – Can you give us a review of the teabagger movie? Inquiring minds want to know about it… If you write it, I’ll post it.

  27. 28 Cornelius T.Zen Friday, November 27, 2009 at 9:52 am

    Good morrow, all!
RAFE: of all the things I have ever been called, “leader” is probably the most flattering. Mind you, flattery will get you nowhere…but don’t let that stop you…thank you, you’ve made a happy man very old…

JJ, how do you make that little heart symbol?

  29. 30 JJ Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 12:19 am

CTZen – RAFE says “You’re kind of like the leader of these whackjobs” — does that make you… The Leader of the Whack?

    *VROOM, VROOM*

My folks were always puttin him down
    (down, down)
They said he came from the wrong side of town…

    😆

    Janus
    You type in &-hearts-;
    without the dashes ♥

  31. 32 JJ Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 12:35 am

    There’s lots of them

  32. 34 JJ Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 8:41 am

RB – This keyboard is pretty useful.

There are other charts that show the code by word instead of numbers, ie “&-hearts-;” instead of “&#-9829-;” but I’ll have to look for one.

  33. 35 Cornelius T.Zen Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 9:26 am

    Good morrow, all!
JJ: Oh, my, flattery all round! I am most honored to be considered “The Leader Of The Whack.” *sniff* Allergies acting up, yeah, yeah, that’s the ticket…
As for being a leftie…two of my literary heroes are William F. Buckley and PJ O’Rourke, DEFINITELY icons of the whacky lefties, eh? But, I digress…
The Right seek to demonize The Left, because The Right have no cogent argument to present. That elusive sense of entitlement is slipping away, and all them feminists, gays, niggers, greasers and furriners are gonna take over and put us white Krisjuns in concentration camps and laugh at us.
Actually, all us feminists, gays, niggers, greasers and furriners have to do is laugh at them, and them poor oppressed white Krisjuns will have their fair share of victimization.
The Right has lost the ability to laugh, and that is their prison.

Apparently not. How ’bout the keyboard… ♥

  35. 38 Janus Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 3:29 pm

Okay. I’ll take it. Any taxes on that? 😉

“The Right has lost the ability to laugh, and that is their prison.”

Anyone keeping track of CTZen’s quotables? I’m about to start a list…

  36. 39 JJ Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 4:03 pm

    Good Morrow, CTZen.

    Good point, as always.

I too enjoy reading some conservative writers, PJ Rourke especially. It always amazes me that wingnuts think of “The Left” as this monolithic mass of unthinking lemmings, marching in lockstep at all times. Even in this comment section we don’t always agree — I can think of 2 or 3 issues right off the bat that many commenters disagree with me on. Yet we can agree to disagree and still get along.

It seems inconceivable to *some* on “The Right” (the wingnutty types) that people could disagree and still respect each other’s right to an opinion. Which says more about their tendency to march in lockstep than it does about people on the other side of the spectrum.

I make all kinds of references to “wingnuts” and “religious whackos”, but I try not to tar all conservatives with the same brush. I’m well aware that there are many moderate conservatives out there (I only wish we heard from them more often) who realize that the right/left dichotomy is a vast oversimplification.

Janus – A list of CTZen’s Greatest Hits — good idea!

    I might start making a list of RB’s Greatest Snark Hits… 😆

  38. 41 Cornelius T.Zen Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 5:32 pm

    Good morrow, all!
My ears were burning, so I reasoned that someone was talking about me. I open the comments page, and voila! I’m famous!
There was a time when Winston Churchill was considered a nutter, simply because he tried to warn the British people about Hitler. Was he right? Duh!
Abraham Lincoln did not particularly like black people, but, because they were people, he saw there was no future for the maintenance of slavery. Ergo, Emancipation Proclamation.
The history of mankind is the history of PROGRESS. The Earth used to be flat. Then, the Sun used to revolve around the Earth. Then, the oceans were full of dragons. The more we learned, the more we wished to know.
Today’s “Right” reflects Orwell’s dystopian nightmare:
    Ignorance is Strength. Not.
Radicals founded the Excited States. (hmmm, it’s beginning to sound like a high school chemistry lecture…) The “Right” in 1776 wanted to maintain the original mercantile relationship with the Mother Country. The “Left” said, “Let my people go!”
Come to think of it, Moses was somewhat of a terrorist himself, what with calling down all those plagues on Pharoah and his people…but I digress…
Anyway, the “Right” wants to turn back the clock. To when, exactly? To a time when feminists, queers, niggers, greasers and furriners all knew their place? Right. Like that’s gonna happen.
The “Right” remind me of King Canute commanding the incoming tide to stop. Happy swimming, your majesty.
    As ever…CTZen
