Wingnut: Pre-emption of A Charlie Brown’s Christmas a Muslim plot

Russell Wiseman, mayor(!) of Arlington, Tennessee, claimed that Obama’s speech on Afghanistan this week was deliberately timed to block the airing of “A Charlie Brown Christmas”…. because he’s a Muslim.   No, I’m not kidding:

The mayor of a suburban Memphis city accused President Barack Obama of deliberately timing his speech about the war in Afghanistan this week to block the airing of the “Peanuts” Christmas television special.

According to The Commercial Appeal, Arlington Mayor Russell Wiseman posted the statements on his Facebook page and said the president is Muslim. Obama is Christian.

Wiseman posted this spittle-flecked rant on his Facebook Page:

“Ok, so, this is total crap, we sit the kids down to watch ‘The Charlie Brown Christmas Special’ and our muslim president is there, what a load…..try to convince me that wasn’t done on purpose. Ask the man if he believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and he will give you a 10 minute disertation (sic) about it….w…hen the answer should simply be ‘yes’….”

And there’s more:

In Wiseman’s extensive thread that attacked the president, his supporters and Muslims, he stated “…you obama people need to move to a muslim country…oh wait, that’s America….pitiful.”

I got nothin’.

This wingnut should change his name to Russell Wiseguy 😉

I wonder what the great pumpkin will bring him next halloween.

Oh Fer Fux sake (apparently I’m still in LOL mode).

So Obama preempted one of the most boring cartoons in the history of animation, big fat hairy deal, I can’t think of a better time to give a speech.

Taking a look at the mayor and the mix of the council, I wonder what sort of feedback he will get from his peers, probably a medal.

I note from his online biography that he is a good church going member of the Sycamore View Church of Christ in Memphis; how is it that this doesn’t surprise me?

I looked through the different committees and councils and found that women are greatly under-represented. I did notice
that there is a Debbie Wiseman on the Zoning Appeals
board. There are one or two other women on other committees.

I should imagine the other women are busy cooking up a storm with all that chicken and gravy and biscuits for those corn-fed hogs on the council.

Remember that Wiseman is only a surname and is not necessarily
    indicative of a person’s attributes.

About the entire situation, my avatar says it all.

Buy the DVD Wiseman, you cheap prick.

  7. 7 Shade Friday, December 4, 2009 at 3:19 pm

He does realise it’s December? The hard part would be scheduling a speech which DOESN’T end up cutting off some christmas special or another.

Pre-empted a cartoon we have all seen 37 times, now if he pre-empted family guy christmas I would be pissed. 😆

So there’s a Russell Wiseman and a Debbie Wiseman?

Until they round up a third I’m not interested in their opinion on Christmas.

A Charlie Brown Christmas will be shown next Tuesday instead. ABC pays lots of money for the broadcast rights and advertisers pay lots of money to purchase advertising on it.

You can’t win with wingnuts. They’re also upset at this harmless, tasteful updating CBS gave to Frosty the Snowman.

Probably a nice giftwrapped box of Psychotic Islamophobia and Paranoid Fear.

No kidding! And old as the hills to top it off! I remember watching it when I was a kid, on a giant hunk of teakwood furniture with a little tiny screen in the middle.

steve – Actually, I checked out that church and it doesn’t seem particularly virulent… they even have a Clown Ministry 😆 I couldn’t find anything about bigotry or any of the usual things they shriek about, so it sounds like the church is rather harmless, if not all the congregants.

That clown ministry really got the wingnuts’ blood boiling… someone is having fun! NOOOOOOOO!

No shit! What a cheap-ass mofo.

Shade – Correct, after American Thanksgiving, prime time TV is lousy with Christmas specials. It would be difficult if not impossible to avoid pre-empting something that has to do with Christmas.

But A Charlie Brown Christmas? What a lame thing to complain about. It’s not like it hasn’t aired over and over and over for the last 2 million years.

  17. 17 JJ Friday, December 4, 2009 at 6:02 pm

    phatbiker

Yeah, then he might have a legitimate beef. But Charlie Brown? How lame

  18. 18 JJ Friday, December 4, 2009 at 6:04 pm

RB – OMG, that’s hilarious! Frosty the Snowman doesn’t even have anything to do with religion.

You’re right, you can’t win with wingnuts because not only do they want it both ways, they want it ALL ways.

  19. 20 Reality Bites Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 6:25 am

Frosty may not be religious, but it is sexualizing a cartoon aimed at children. Even Dan Savage is with them on this one.

Since it wasn’t broadcast and was aimed at adults who had to choose to see it, and the dialogue was from a sitcom that goes out at 8:00, I don’t see a problem.

  20. 21 Unrepentant_expat Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 12:00 pm

Quite frankly, I wish it had been Charlie Brown’s Christmas which had preempted further engagement in Afghanistan.

I think the fact that another racist idiot like Wiseman has outed himself on Facebook is hilarious and a classic example of how wingnuts misunderstand the internet. The next time he stands for election or tries to get a real job, a bank loan, an online date – whatever – someone is gonna google him and find all this lovely bigotry he’s been spewing and realize that just because he might look like your average suburban white middle-aged middle class shmendrick, he is in fact a racist douchebag. And the best part is that he has declared himself as such with no effort on our part to ferret him out or anything. He has volunteer the information. I look forward to more of this phenomenon.
