Teabagging Behind Closed Doors

The first National Teabaggers Convention, that very expensive ($549 a head)  For-Profit “grassroots” shindig being held February 4-6 and featuring Sarah Palin as a keynote speechifier, will be closed to the media:

It was reported yesterday that the convention will be almost entirely closed to the press, bar a few “selected” journalists. This constraint will be extended even to speeches by the convention’s headliners, Minnesota congresswoman Michele Bachmann and former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

Judson Phillips, a spokesman for the convention, told the Minnesota Star Tribune that the sessions were closed “at the request” of the presenters themselves. Palin, in fact, won’t be available for any interviews at all during the convention.

What are they so afraid of, with a couple of speakers like Palin and Bachmann?  BWAHAHA!

Okay, it’s a little weird, considering the teabaggers gripe and whine endlessly about the lack of media coverage for their events (it’s not true, but so what?).  But with Palin involved, the sudden onset of media-shyness isn’t that surprising.  Even when she was running for Vice President she was kept away from the media as much as possible, and the few interviews she did give were unmitigated disasters.

Besides, the teabagger convention isn’t meant to attract attention to their issues, it’s a pep rally, all about creating an echo chamber to provide circular reinforcement of the teabagger worldview.  In that context, reality would be an unwelcome interloper.

    Good morrow, all!
So, the *populist* teabaggers are really a secret society, a *grassroots* Illuminati?
Well, if you’re not paranoid, you’re not paying attention – CTZen

CTZen – $549 a head doesn’t sound very “populist” to me. It’s far beyond the reach of most of the people the teabagger movement supposedly represents.

It was only a matter of time before the teabaggers with half a brain got around to figuring out ways to relieve their less-intellectually-gifted brethren of their hard-earned cash.

Wait. What?
