Did I call it

Or did I call it?  Armageddon has been delayed!  The Doomsday Clock has been moved one minute further away from the cataclysmic midnight hour and now sits at 6 minutes to 12.

The press release from the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists says:

“It is 6 minutes to midnight. We are poised to bend the arc of history toward a world free of nuclear weapons.  For the first time since atomic bombs were dropped in 1945, leaders of nuclear weapons states are cooperating to vastly reduce their arsenals and secure all nuclear bomb-making material.  And for the first time ever, industrialized and developing countries alike are pledging to limit climate-changing gas emissions that could render our planet nearly uninhabitable.  These unprecedented steps are signs of a growing political will to tackle the two gravest threats to civilization — the terror of nuclear weapons and runaway climate change.”

Now, one-two-three — BIG sigh of relief.  Ahhhhhhhh!

That’s really weird. About thirty seconds before they moved the clock back, my dog suddenly went to fridge and poured us both a glass of champagne.

    Can I borrow your dog?

I couldn’t speculate on which way it was going to go, but I have to admit the skeptic in me said 4 minutes, the rest of me couldn’t see a reason why. It’s all part of my power of negative positive thinking.

Huh…never mind your dog, balb; can I borrow your fridge?

If we want to see the clock move back by hours, what we have to do is gather up all the religious fanatics and set them adrift somewhere (nominations are open for where) so they can eliminate one another and all their repulsive ideologies…

We could put them on an ice floe up north and give them a little lesson in climate change.

If the world temp changes at x rate and the ice you are standing on melts at y rate, how long do you think you have before you drown?

balb – A boozehound, eh? Venerable old working breed.

    Bruce

but I have to admit the skeptic in me said 4 minutes

You are not alone. The cynics at Hit&Run also predicted it would be closer to 12. In the comments at Discovery Mag, they were talking about *how much* closer, not whether it would be moved closer or farther away.

Janus – Not a bad idea. They think the world is “fallen” anyway, to repeat the blatant dog whistle I heard Sarah Palin use in her interview with Glenn Beck.

Bruce, I LIKE! And given their collective level of education, especially in the sciences (of which math is one), they ought to stay well occupied in the short time it takes for them all to drown… 😆

JJ, you listenrd to Palin and Beck at the same time? Oh, your poor little ears!

Wait. What?
