Focus on the Family to advertise in Superbowl

I’m sure it will come as a great relief to the 275 workers they laid off last year due to “declining donations” (translation:  too much money poured into Prop8) that Focus on the Family will be spending upwards of $5mil for two(2) 30 second spots praising either bigotry, forced childbirth or the joys of theocracy (maybe all three!) in the Superbowl:

In between the Dr Pepper, Doritos and Bud Light commercials airing during the Super Bowl on Feb. 7, one first-time advertiser will be pushing God’s product line.

Focus on the Family will air a 30-second “life- and family-affirming” television spot, featuring University of Florida star quarterback Tim Tebow and his mother, Pam, during the coverage.  […]

Tebow and his mother will share one of their many positive personal stories, Schneeberger said, but he wouldn’t reveal which one. One contender is Pam Tebow’s decision to carry her son to term despite a life-threatening pregnancy in the Philippines, where she and her husband, Bob, were serving as Christian missionaries.

Things must have changed since the year CBS rejected commercials from both MoveOn.org and PETA on the grounds that they were “advocacy ads”.  Oh wait — they were advocacy ads that CBS didn’t agree with.  Big diff!

The Liberal Media strikes again.  Religious right hypocrisy strikes… continuously.

I’ve never got why advocacy ads were not allowed during the superbowl. In the high holy land of capitalism, shouldn’t anyone with enough with enough money be able to place a legal ad during the superbowl? I mean, that censorship is what commiesociofascists do, isn’t it?

I’m pretty sure we can exclude it being about beating your dog or about about fathers taking their sons in the shower so they won’t become gay.

We won’t see them in Canada. Thank the
    Lord for such small mercies.

This is so typical of these so-called family values organizations. They spend huge amounts of money on advertising to suck people into giving them more money, rather than spend their money on actual services to help people achieve the ideal they are trying to promote. What does Focus actually do?

  5. 5 deBeauxOs Sunday, January 17, 2010 at 7:29 am

Focus on the Family promotes hate.

  6. 6 The Arbourist Sunday, January 17, 2010 at 11:09 am

That just is not possible deBeauxOs. These family friendly organizations are well grounded in reality, love, and truth.

    You simply must be wrong.

Bleatmop – Apparently it only applies to advocacy ads that CBS disagrees with… meaning that they’re okay with FotF’s message of hate.

    Rob F – LOL, Dobson the puppy-beating anti-Christ.

  9. 9 JJ Sunday, January 17, 2010 at 2:36 pm

Torontonian – Wish we could say the same thing about Focus on the Family, that we “won’t see them in Canada”. The upside of the economic downturn, and particularly Focus’s failing fortunes, is that they won’t metastasize any further for awhile.

    What does Focus actually do?

    It’s a scam run by a sadistic dog-beater.

    Yes, it’s really that simple.

    deBeauxOs

Focus on the Family promotes hate.

Please everyone email CBS and let them know you are not happy about this decision. I have alreday done so. In addition contact moveon.org and ask them to email their members asking them to contact CBS and voice their opinion. MOVEON.ORG has a massive mailing list. They also have the power to quickly create an online petition for their membvers to sign and then deliver to the CBS network.

Henry Hobson – We’re mostly Canadians so I’m not sure how much drag we’d have with CBS — the commercial won’t even run on the simulcast up here. But great idea for all you USians.

I’m thinking about going one step further and filing an FCC complaint, because frankly, I just don’t see CBS responding to thousands of complaints from mere liberals.

    FCC complaint?? W00t!! Go JAB!!!

To whom it may concern!!I find it very interesting how people arbitrarily condemn something without assembling a logical argument. You say that the Focus on the family org promotes hate without any explanation as to why you say this. I would be interested in hearing a coherent explanation as to why the ad should not be shown and not personal attacks on individuals. This leads me to conclude that you lack the understanding and capacity to mount successful arguments. By the way, what standard do you use to accept or reject something? Your opinion? your feelings? your wisdom? public opinion? Share your reasoning!!!

  18. 19 J. A. Baker Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at 9:03 pm

By the way, what standard do you use to accept or reject something?

CBS’s own alleged standards, based on the reason they gave for rejecting MoveOn.org’s ad during the “Nipplegate” Super Bowl.

    Try again, wingnut.

At Amptoons, Jeff Fecke quotes Jodi Jacobson from RH Reality Check. Apparently, Pam Tebow’s life wasn’t threatened the way it is made out to be.

Anybody wanna guess how likely it is that Focus on the Fetus’s Superbowl ad will mention this? Or that abortion is illegal in the Philippines?

Thankyou, Rob F! Just blogged it!
