    Math is hard…

I think “The Onion” sarcasm mode is on in allcaps at the VV. The Dems were acting like 60 seats barely gave them the right to look the GOP in the eyes, let alone be a majority. Having 59 will have them sobbing for forgiveness and and begging for instructions from the GOP.

    SQ,

The guy who wrote that is Roy Edroso. It’s meant to be taken as a VERY tongue-in-cheek sendup of the Village Idiots™ in the “librul” media.

SQ – I’m pretty sure it’s meant with tongue firmly in cheek 😉

Oh for sure, it’s meant as a slap in the head for all those moaning about how it means the death of the health care bill, etc. The Dems still have a huge majority, enough to ram whatever legislation they want right up the GOP’s ass… if they weren’t such pantywaists. Jeezus.

JAB – Yeah, I caught the play 😉

Since when is the smaller number of two terms deemed
    the larger, viz. majority?

Ooooooooh, they love to play with words just like
Harper and Mike Harris and all the other Con artists.

Knowing the vertebral deficiencies of the Dems, they WILL treat that as a majority.

    They did already… 🙄

Sorry, JAB. At least I’m alliterative.

But I *would* like to know what makes the ‘liberals’ of the US, and our country for that matter, so damn squishy (squishy, not swishy). Has anyone ever gotten anywhere by catering to bullies? Ever? It just makes bullies push harder and demand more.

Torontonian – I think it’s meant as a joke, or maybe a prediction of how the Democrats will respond to it. OMG! We can’t do anything, we’ve only got an 18 seat majority!

  11. 12 JJ Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 8:28 am

Bina – Considering how they managed to squander their supermajority, the loss of one or two or even 5 seats won’t make much difference in their performance. Who knows, it might even put them on edge enough to grow a pair and start kicking some ass.

    …Just kidding! 😆

Exactly. Why are liberals such pussies? Bush never had an 18-seat Senate majority, yet he managed to pass all kinds of radical legislation.

Part of the problem I guess is that Bush was able to get bipartisan support for a lot of his initiatives — that’s gone. There’s no longer any hope of reaching across the aisle — the GOP is determined to vote NO to everything the Democrats try to put through, because they’re more interested in undermining the administration than in doing what’s best for the country. They’re thugs and hit men, and so far, it’s working for them.

Plus, the Dems have spent the last decade and a half being mau-maued by the “librul” media into becoming Republican Lite.

That, and the fact that they’re now so dependent on corporate money in order to be elected, thanks to St. Ronnie the Red Ink Raygun and his war on labor unions.

JAB – It’s only because the GOP keeps moving the Overton Window farther and farther right that the Dems look progressive at all (with a few exceptions like Franken, etc). If the GOP dumped the social con stuff, there’s not much difference between them at this point.

This has been deadly for the Dems — it’s allowed the GOP to frame them as the buddies of Wall Street and themselves as populists and the friends of the little guy (puke!). They have to figure out how to get this turned around ASAP.

Wait. What?
