CTZen – They made their own trap by having nothing to bring to the table but bullshit talking points and outright lies. OMG, they are idiots.

Big win for the Dems and the USian people. Disaster for the gop.

Bleatmop – You’re too young to remember, but there used to be a commercial for a racetrack in Ontario that was exactly like that. It always started with “SUNNNNNNNNDAY! NIAAAAAAAAAAGARA!”

Jon Stewart got a lot of good mileage on the GOP last (Wednesday) night on his program.

It’s amazing to think that the GOP complained about an 11-page outline for the gathering. I guess the only recourse would have been to read them the Cliffs Notes version after hiding their crayons and colouring books.

    They’re a real one-note-samba gang.

Jasper – So what? He has MONEY and he wants his procedure done TODAY. If I had MONEY and I wanted an operation done TODAY instead of 2 weeks from today, I would go stateside too.

Now, about the other 95% that don’t have that kind of money… oh, who gives a shit about them, right?

Torontonian – They’re really becoming a parody of themselves. I watched a couple of hours of this thing today, and the GOP’s performance was almost unbelievable — all talking points, lots of outright bullshit.

They know that when this stuff is reported it’ll be in 7-second sound bites and most people are only listening with half an ear, so they’ll pick up something like “This bill covers abortion!” I couldn’t believe the nerve of these guys, propagandizing to the bitter end.

    Onward to reconciliation, Obama.

    Good morrow, all!
The real battle is not between change and the status quo. It’s not between the Democats and the Reptilians.
The real fight is between the needs of the public at large and the rapacious, insatiable desires of large corporations, who see the public in only two roles:
Either you put money into their pockets by buying whatever product or service they sell; or, you put money into their pockets by working for them and adding to their bottom line.
If, for whatever reason, you are not putting money into their pockets, you are, therefore, taking money out of their pockets, and therefore, you are an enemy who must be eliminated.
It is simple: Obama is threatening to take money out of their pockets and give it to the enemy, that enemy being, anybody who does not put money into their pockets.
Therein lies the war. The real terrorists are already in North America. The casualties will be people who cannot afford medical treatment to save and extend their lives. The insurance companioes are counting on attrition to reduce their enemies. The insurance companies are laying siege to the medical well-being of the middle class. They demand tribute. It’s a massive protection racket, with all the heartlessness that such a philosophy requires.
The Devil is redundant. He should apply for unemployment benefits — while he can – CTZen

CTZen – This health care debate down there is really interesting to me.

I’m generally not in favour of gov’t intrusion, but health care is my exception to that rule — IMO, as long as we have to pay taxes then people have a right to a basic level of affordable health care, and that seems to be one thing that governments can do without fucking it up too badly. At least compared to the alternative, private insurance companies whose priority isn’t health care but profits. One can’t blame the insurance companies — when they cut people off, refuse to cover pre-existing conditions, price themselves out of the market for 30 million people, they’re just doing what they’re supposed to do — make a profit.

USians who can afford good insurance like to crow about how they have the best health care in the world, but *having* the best health care in the world isn’t the same thing as *being able to afford* the best health care in the world.

That said, health care reform is a terrifying prospect for the GOP, who had the opportunity for many years and never even tried to do it. We all know how most Canadians feel about Tommy Douglas, they don’t want that to happen to Obama.

JJ – That commercial sounds as awesome as this one! I love stuff like this.

Wait. What?
