Seeds of fear!!!

We cover the waterfront today, folks.  From the government-mandated spreading of seed for survival to… Survival Seeds!

YES: There is something you can do to prepare for the coming Apocalypse when Obama’s Secret Gestapo gets a lock on the food supply and redirects it to all the Elites and Insiders.  Plant a Crisis Garden for the low low price of $149 USD:

“WorldNetDaily cites strong evidence that some government agencies are stockpiling huge amounts of canned food”… Well, say no more.  You can just bet that state-stockpiled Spork isn’t destined for any God-fearing, teabagging conservative forks, bucko.  As advertised on the extremely credible Glenn Beck show:

And of course, Survival Seeds “were created by God as we read in Genesis”.  (Do these people know their target group or what?)

I’m all for self sustainability, but this ad plays on fear and a decent dose of misinformation.

Hybridization and genetically modified organisms (GMO} are two totally separate things. Hybrids happen in nature and can be encouraged by man without the damage to biodiversity caused by GMO.

For more information and edification checking out the NPR podcast “Protecting the Global Food Chain” originally aired on Mon, 08 Mar 2010 17:43:00. http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast.php?id=510053

Though really I should be telling this to the FOX news audience but the chances of them being willing to listen to me because of my liberal politics are hovering somewhere close to zero.

    Good morrow, all!
Non-hybrid seeds? As in “racially pure Caucasian” seeds? Non-mullato, non-mestizo, non-Tiger Woods seeds? Royal families of Europe seeds? Thoroughbred seeds? Inbred seeds? (cue in “Dueling Banjos”)
Check out the ears on THAT corn, Bubba. Sure got a pretty mouth.
    Quadrotriticale, anyone? – CTZen

Jordon – Agreed. I grow some of my own stuff — depending, year to year, what else I’m busy doing — and I think it’s a good thing to do. But this ad takes self-sufficiency to a new level — it’s all about fear, being self-sufficient in the event of a crisis, rather than because it’s better and cheaper food.

Also, “vacuum-packed” seeds? Wouldn’t that kill them?

CTZen – This plays on fears of genetic modification. A lot of people think “hybrid” means the same thing as “genetically modified”, which sounds scary. Man-eating pig-tomatoes etc. 🙄

Depending on a garden full of food, if a totally inexperienced person ever gets this from their can of seeds, in an ocean of hungry people in a nation that averages 2.2 guns per person never made much sense to me.

Learning how to teach an entire community to grow some food and save the seeds does make sense. It is called food security.

You can find seed saving and growing information on the website of this 20 year-old non-profit:

Well…we saw what happened to hybrid cars (think Prius).

Beck is touting that his seeds are not the product of big-Agri.
His seeds don’t come from Cargill, ConAgra, Monsanto or ADM.

But I thought GOP loved big Agri. Look how they bent over
    backwards with GM crops!

Beck is in the same league as Palin only he gets more airtime
    and both are dangerous.

SQ – Yes, so much for Toyota’s reputation for excellence.

They’re both populists, which sometimes pits them against the Republican herd. It’s a little dangerous for the GOP right now, but ultimately the strays will return to the fold.

Wait. What?
