Liberty: ur doin it wrong

I thought it was supposed to be “Innocent til proven Guilty”, not the other way around.

How do you like that post-9/11 new normal security blanket now, kids?

The concept is dangerously close to a police state.

I wonder if there’s a tie-in to the Rahim Jaffer
matter and being let off more serious charges.

    I think there’s a tie-in but can’t quite figure
    it out.

Such a law would be scary, the cops could harass anyone they felt like at any time and not need a reason. Too wide open for abuse. Of course the Nazis against drunk driving think it’s a wonderful idea.

Torontonian – When cops can pull you over and demand that you prove you’re innocent (of the charge of drunk driving), without any reason such as you’re careening all over the road, ran a red light or whatever, that is the essence of a police state.

Here in BC they can already pull you over just to check that “your papers are in order”… no reason, they just randomly point at people in traffic and wave them over. I have about a 50/50 success rate at ignoring them and driving right on by, depending if I’m wearing sunglasses or not (sunglasses = no eye contact). I love it when they give chase… huffing and puffing down the sidewalk, waving their fucking clipboards… ha!

Phatbiker – A law like that is abuse, IMO. People have a right not to be hassled unless there’s probable cause. As I said above, if someone’s all over the road driving like a maniac, then okay, the cops have reason to pull that person over and ask them WTF’s going on. But randomly pulling people over for no reason and demanding they prove they’re sober is BS.

I already find it disturbing that in BC we have random checks for no reason other than to look at your drivers license and run a check on you.

Wait. What?
