Focus on the 420

The notorious Pat Robertson — yep, the “700 Club” Pat Robertson — says pot should be legal “like alcohol“:

Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson says marijuana should be legalized and treated like alcohol because the government’s war on drugs has failed.

The outspoken evangelical Christian and host of “The 700 Club” on the Virginia Beach-based Christian Broadcasting Network he founded said the war on drugs is costing taxpayers billions of dollars. He said people should not be sent to prison for marijuana possession.

This comes as absolutely no surprise to me — I mean, just look at the guy:

Ahhh, yeah… we’ve all seen that kind of face before… stumbling by on the street, gazing brainlessly across the table at us over a plate piled high with Chicken Soo Gai and Shrimp-Fried Rice, and sometimes even leering back at us from a mirror.

After a lifetime of ridiculously wrong statements and insanely off-base, half-baked predictions, it’s good to see Pat getting something right for a change.

UPDATE:  I don’t know about you, but I can definitely see a resemblance:

Do you think he’s found a new diversion to
help him escape the realities of his little “world”?

I”M SHOCKED!!! That crazy old snake-oil salesman actually said something that made sense.

As I said earlier on Twitter, you have to admit that smoking copious amounts of weed would make it easier to tolerate Pat Robertson

Considering that the Right for the most part has been legalization-positive for awhile, this doesn’t surprise me that much..they all think that the government should tax it and lay off all them, the rich old bastards, as if they gave two sh…as if they cared about anyone being incarcerated…they would legalize everything and hope that it meant they were tax free…
Yeah, right, I do really really hate agreeing with anything that old reprobate says…

WOW! That guy must be using.

I’m not rich. I’m not old. And I REALLY want a tax-break – not because I don’t want to pay my fair share – some taxes are necessary. But Ontario’s high taxes are strangling my young family, and moreover, government simply cannot be trusted to spend our money on things that work. The Ontario government spent who knows how much money prosecuting citizens like David Chen, Ian Thompson, and setting up the G-20 fiasco.

Dalton McGuinty doesn’t deserve another penny. Tax breaks don’t just benefit rich old people.

Old rich people don’t need all day kindergarden or a cleaner environment, the support of green industries, and a whole whack of social services that the ON gov’t is paying for. They are rich and will die before the shit hits the fan. As for the G20 it was the feds that spent the 1.5 billion and planned the fiasco.

I’m in BC, and it seems Ontarians, like us, are never happy with whoever is elected..but I wasn’t referring to taxation per se, just that wealth seems to breed an obsession with avoiding any and all taxes…you know, those who send their kids to private school and complain about the teacher’s union, those who say that they are overtaxed and we should privatize our medical system while they fly to exotic locations for cheap cosmetic surgery, etc. etc
Personally, I am retired, living on a limited income and taxed beyond belief, considering my ability to pay..but I don’t mind..I think the social programs that benefit me and other Canadians are worth fighting for, and well worth paying for..I would lhave been dead 40 years ago without medicare….
And I was under the impression that the subject here was a rich old white boy supporting the legalization of pot…not Dalton McGuinty, or Bob Rae, or any other Ontario Premier…?

  9. 9 JJ Friday, March 9, 2012 at 3:33 pm

By the look on his face, I’d say “Yes”.
    Bwahahaha!
Can’t you just picture him twisting one up?

  10. 10 JJ Friday, March 9, 2012 at 3:34 pm

A late bloomer if there ever was one 😛

  11. 11 JJ Friday, March 9, 2012 at 3:35 pm

It would probably make it a lot easier to be Pat Robertson, too.

  12. 12 JJ Friday, March 9, 2012 at 3:46 pm

The libertarian right is definitely legalization positive, primarily because of the principle that your body is your property and the state has no right to tell you what to smoke (eat, drink, read, watch etc).

But right wing libertarians are, unfortunately, not a large swath of conservatism. Generally speaking, conservatives are okay with government dictating what the citizenry can do with their own bodies. They also recognize drugs as a wedge issue that gets the insane part of their base fired up, so they use it to their advantage. That’s why the War On Drugs (a conservative concept right from the start) still goes on after 40 years of FAIL.

    Ya think!!???? 😆

  14. 14 JJ Friday, March 9, 2012 at 3:52 pm

government simply cannot be trusted to spend our money on things that work

    Can’t say I disagree 😎
They’ve proven it over & over & over.

I’ve never minded paying taxes for infrastructure & health care and the other things that keep a society hanging together, but some of the programs they blow money on are nothing but political pandering and I really don’t see why I should have to pay for any political party’s re-election campaign.

  15. 15 JJ Friday, March 9, 2012 at 3:58 pm

And I was under the impression that the subject here was a rich old white boy supporting the legalization of pot

    Another one!

I’m old and I am preparing for When The Shit Hits The Fan, because it will probably happen a lot sooner than we think. We are already in uncharted waters with the whole world being completely broke and pretending not to be… 😯

  17. 17 Phatbiker Friday, March 9, 2012 at 4:49 pm

The mega-rich are hording money like never before and the banks and big corporations are sitting on piles of cash and won’t spend it. It’s the Governments and the 99% that are going broke.

  18. 18 JJ Friday, March 9, 2012 at 5:08 pm

Yep. There’s a reason the banks have been stealing in unprecedented amounts and with unheard of hubris for the last few years. They know better than anyone what’s happening.

    Torches & Pitchforks!!

Actually, old people need a clean environment more than young healthy people. Why else are they always being told when we get a heat-wave, or told they should get their flu-shots?

Green industry is anything but. It’s not industrious for one thing, it can’t survive without government subsidy, which is being extracted from our wallets. As for green, well…
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/moslive/article-1350811/In-China-true-cost-Britains-clean-green-wind-power-experiment-Pollution-disastrous-scale.html

Operational command of the police at the G20 was under the PROVINCIAL government. That’s the FIASCO to which I was referring.

And, while I specifically singled out Ontario, my criticism about being untrustworthy certainly extends to the Federal Government as well. You know… Like, two billion dollar albatrosses which the left so keen to hang onto.

  20. 20 fhg1893 Friday, March 9, 2012 at 5:26 pm

Exactly. Taxes are a necessary evil to some degree. But government has grown so fat that it’s turned on us. Time to reign in the beast.

  21. 21 fhg1893 Friday, March 9, 2012 at 5:45 pm

While there are certainly problems, umm…

  22. 22 JJ Friday, March 9, 2012 at 5:46 pm

    Dingdingdingding! Broad brush alert 😉

  23. 23 fhg1893 Friday, March 9, 2012 at 6:06 pm

Oh, and I almost forgot. The eco-crucifixes which Ontario has become so enamored with? Yeah, turns out they’re extremely bad for birds, and bats. Which as you might know, primarily consume insects, which we in most of Canada have in substantial surplus.

What was it that was primarily responsible for the spread of the black death again?

And if Ontario is so in love with the environment, then tell me, why do the joined-at-the-hip Federal and Provincial Liberals have a hate-on for Conservation groups like, the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, and Ducks Unlimited? The latter has conserved about 12 million acres of wetlands across North America, the former is firmly committed to improving Ontario’s bio-diversity by re-introducing species that have gone extinct through over-hunting and over-fishing.

    But Dalton McGuinty?

    http://www.ontariooutofdoors.com/news/?ID=225&a=read

It seems that Dalton McGuinty’s Ontario can afford to do things like defile and violate our beautiful and still green, well… for the moment anyway, province.

  24. 24 fhg1893 Friday, March 9, 2012 at 6:41 pm

You got me again! I stand corrected: excepting JJ, Bruce Hyer, and John Rafferty!

  25. 25 fhg1893 Friday, March 9, 2012 at 7:57 pm

I’m not trying to keep flogging this dead horse here, but I don’t know how much longer I can afford to stay in Dalton McGuinty’s Ontario. I’ve been seriously considering packing up an moving to Alberta. Keep piling on the straw Premier Dad. I think I can take one more…

    What would Jesus smoke? 🙂

    (he’s still crazy…)

  27. 27 JJ Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 7:48 pm

Bats! I love bats — I’ve got a bunch living in my shed & they’re great for keeping the insects under control. (Cute too.)

I had no idea it was getting so expensive to live in Ontario. It wasn’t that bad when I lived there and I lived right in downtown Toronto.

Why do they keep voting in McGuinty if his gov’t is so hard on the middle class?
