“Legitimate Rape”

If the Republican Party can survive this kind of vicious idiocy:

Rep. Todd Akin, the Republican nominee for Senate in Missouri who is running against Sen. Claire McCaskill, justified his opposition to abortion rights even in case of rape with a claim that victims of “legitimate rape” have unnamed biological defenses that prevent pregnancy.

“First of all, from what I understand from doctors [pregnancy from rape] is really rare,” Akin told KTVI-TV in an interview postedSunday. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

…then I have to admit I’m rapidly losing all hope for our southern neighbours and will begin lobbying Ottawa for a Zombie Wall along the 49th Parallel ASAP.

“LEGITIMATE RAPE”???

Then what would be “Illegitimate Rape”?  And what is this magic spermicidal hormone we apparently secrete during “Legitimate Rape”?

I can’t wait to see the AMA‘s response to this.

*********************************************************************************

“I MISSPOKE” UPDATE:  Yep, that’s his excuse.  No, really.

Sorry dude, you’re now the Legitimate Rape Guy.  Hopefully your body will excrete some kind of reputation-cleansing hormone and all will be well.

Knowing the way anti-choicers think would likely never be a “legitimate rape”. Or perhaps the implied definition of that misogynist freak Bill Napoli:

A real-life description would be a rape victim, brutally raped, savaged. The girl was a virgin. She was religious. She planned on saving her virginity until she was married. She was brutalized and raed, sodomized as bad as you can possibly make it, and is impregnated.

Can you believe that this moran currently sits on the House of Representatives Science and Technology Committee? Check out Wonkette (some of the comments are pretty funny):

The concept of separation of Church and State is taking a real beating in the US these days.

As long as they are targeting women, minorities or liberals they can do NO wrong.

    😦

And that should be “Knowing the way anti-choicers think would likely never be a “legitimate rape” by their definition.”

Of course he’s on the Science Committee! You wouldn’t want him talking about subjects that he knows nothing about would you? 🙂

He wasn’t supposed to say that out loud and in public. Outlandish statements like this one are usually reserved to private meetings with financial backers and with those of like mindedness.

He was speaking on the Jaco Report on KTVI–our local Fox station. Akin thought he was among the like-minded.

What bothers me is that the junk science he was spouting isn’t being refuted loudly enough. This jerk Akin is a home-schooler hero and I’m shuddering to think of all the perfect misinformation that’s being taught to children by their like-minded, know-nothing-and-proud-of-it, dimwitted parents.
