Rage Against the Lifesite Machine

In a bombshell of Outrageous Outrage exposed by an “incensed” “Ottawa Mom” (or should that be “MOM”?) last week, it was revealed that 52 Catholic school kids from St.Pete’s in Ottawa were heading down to Ohio on a Civics field trip to observe US election procedures. The too-much-time-on-her-hands Ottawa Mom was in a frenzy of fear that the trip might have an ulterior motive: to help the MuslimKenyanFetusBully win re-election.  After all, the Civics Teacher in charge of the mobile shindig, Scott Searle, made it clear on his Facebook page where he stands:

…and most incriminatingly, among Searle’s “Likes”: *GASP* “Obama For America“.  The pinch is in!  SHRIEEEEEEEEK!!

Incensed Ottawa Mom reported this Obamanation to her most trusted “news” source, Lifesite, the Canadian mouthpiece of batshit-insane extremist fetus-obsessed ultraconservative Catholicism.  Lifesite and its readers in turn responded with predictable Jesus-driven spittle-flecked fury.  Lifesite comments condemning the Catholic school board to fry forever in the afterlife convinced the Principal of St.Pete’s to cancel the trip:

Many anonymous commenters accused the board of being “incompetent” or condoning “the anti-Catholic policies of Obama.” Others said the board is “pro-contraception and pro-abortion” and “pays for contraception for their employees … and partners with groups that promote contraception in the developing world.”

One comment, which received 31 “likes” from fellow readers, said “If you support the party that supports abortion YOU BETRAY GOD.”

“I could see that the trip was causing unforeseen anxiety,” said McDonald who, after discussing her decision with Searle, gathered the 52 students on Thursday in the school’s chapel to break the news.

Searle is apparently well-liked by his students, and their response to the Lifesite article that led to the field trip being cancelled was swift and terrible.  Normally a LS article is lucky to glean 3 or 4 comments: the field trip article has over 300 as of this writing, as enraged students descend on Lifesite like hungry harriers on a rat-infested pasture.  They’ve also started a Twitter campaign, #TeamSearle, which is a hell of a lot more active than some zombie timelines I could name.  (#M312, I’m looking at you.)

If nothing else, the student response definitely puts lie to the notion that all those happy shiny young faces the Catholic schools bus in to the annual March for Feti are the next generation of wombcentric leg-humping hyperconservative Catholic punishment freaks.  Woot! Woot!  Go Team Searle!

I’m glad to hear that the kids are fighting back. Back in the 70s, St. Pat and St. Pete were considered excellent and fairly progressive Catholic schools. Sounds like this teacher, Scott Searle, is a product of earlier, less extremist days. Good to hear that his students are just as level-headed – go Team Searle.

The man that’s praying fer ya, “SoCon”‘ managed to get a little racism mixed in with the faux anti-abortion spittle. He alleged that the students were “pimping” for Obama. Such nice Chrstians, eh? god bless their pointy little heads…

Goddamnit some people have sooo much free fucking time on their hands! Those poor little bastards, it would be funny if they rounded up some eggs and TP and made the rounds on those busybodies’ houses. I know that that is widely referred to as vandalism these days but picking on kids like that is just straight up heinous. Besides, back in that day that was how you let adults know that their behaviour towards kids is noted, and susceptible to consequences.

Well, maybe the cancellation saved the schoolkids from being shot to death by crazed Amerikkkans who consider any furriners lookin’ at their totally fair free elections as being part of the United Nations Black Helicopter Invasion Plot.

There’s no way that a bus loaded with Canadian children should be going to any other country for 5 days to interfere with their Federal Election… the whole premise is insane.
If the trip had happened, the bus logically should have bee stopped at the USA Border and their teacher jailed.
Imagine if the roles were reversed, and bus loads of ‘Merican kids were coming north to help Stephen Harper get re-elected . . …. yeah, now you’re getting the picture.

Don, If you read the story s.l.ow.l.y, you see that they were going to America to understand they US system. You know, it’s like a civics class, where they, like, learn things.

FYI…all buses are stopped at the border, as are cars and trucks.

It was a civics class field trip to learn about US electoral procedures. The Lifesite brownshirts flipped out because they discovered the teacher was *GASP* an Obama supporter. As if his personal politics is anyone’s business.

LOL, “sharpe” as a marble, eh?

    LOL
Actually, with the amount of voter suppression going on down there it wouldn’t surprise me if some people don’t want it observed by outsiders. In some places it sounds like a banana republic, not ‘the world’s greatest democracy’.

“Pimping for Obama”: nice. WTF’s WITH these freaks? I don’t agree with Obama on everything, but I’d want him to win for no other reason than because he’s been so disrespected by the right. I know Bush was treated badly too by the left, but the whole Dem party didn’t line up against everything he did & treat him like he was illegitimate, “the other”, etc.

Reading through the comments at lifesite I’m struck by how idealistic & compassionate these kids sound. Sort of like J.Christ!
