Judge paints big fat bullseye on abortion providers’ backs?

Today the judge in the Scott Roeder trial ruled that Roeder can plead voluntary manslaughter:

Before the first juror is selected or witness called, a decision allowing a confessed killer to argue he believes the slaying of one of the nation’s few late-term abortion providers was a justified act aimed at saving unborn children has upended what most expected to be an open-and-shut case.

Some abortion opponents are pleasantly stunned and eager to watch Scott Roeder tell a jury his slaying of Wichita doctor George Tiller was voluntary manslaughter. Tiller’s colleagues and abortion rights advocates are outraged and fear the court’s actions give a more than tacit approval to further acts of violence.

“This judge has basically announced a death sentence for all of us who help women,” said Dr. Warren Hern of Boulder, Colo., a longtime friend of Tiller who also performs late-term abortions. “That is the effect of the ruling.”

My first reaction was that Dr. Hern is right:  if Roeder is convicted of a lesser charge than Murder and ends up with a sentence of as little as 4 years, it’s not much disincentive to all those other would-be Roeders, is it now?  Four or five years is a small price to pay for the martyrdom and notoriety these people so long for.

However, when you want to know what’s really going on with the Roeder trial, it’s always best to check out what those “on the ground” have to say.  According to “Roeder Watch”, this is standard legal operating procedure and no cause for alarm:

Judge Wilbert did not in any way bring about an “open season” on abortion providers. His decision is not “chilling”. It in no way “sends the message that religious fanaticism can be considered a defense for murder.” And while wannabe terrorists see a glimmer of hope, it is because they are grasping at straws.

What Judge Wilbert did do was his best to limit the possibility of a mistrial or for Roeder to walk on appeal. That happened in 1996 when an over-zealous police officer violated his (and our) constitutional rights. He is working within the confines of the law, both statutes and case law, and to give Roeder his right to trial by jury and presumption of innocence. It is difficult to remember that especially given why Roeder assassinated Dr. Tiller and what Dr. Tiller means. Fatalists are just working themselves into an unnecessary panic.

So, while it might sound a little weird, the judge is just covering all the legal bases by making sure that Roeder’s constitutional rights aren’t violated in a way that might allow him to walk.  The chances of Roeder actually being convicted of manslaughter are slim to nil.

FBI warned about Roeder

At first glance, the story sounds disturbingly familiar — FBI receives warning about potential terrorist attack, does nothing:

More than a month before the shooting of a high-profile abortion doctor, the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Kansas City received an anonymous letter warning that the man now charged in the case “would do physical harm” to Dr. George Tiller or any other abortion provider, the agency said.

The letter writer, who later revealed himself to the FBI, and his wife are together in a bitter custody battle over a girl fathered by Scott Roeder, the man accused in Tiller’s May 31 death. The April 3 letter contained no specific or credible threat, according to the FBI.

I imagine the FBI gets this kind of thing every day, anonymous warnings that they write off as being from angry crackpots with axes to grind, so it’s not hard to see how this one was ignored.  Even so — given that Dr.Tiller had just gone through a well-publicized court case and emerged victorious, dashing the deranged hopes of fetus fetishists who wanted to see him at the very least lose his license to practice medicine, even anonymous tips about threats to his safety, and the safety of his clinic, might have been worth checking out.

But that was “pre-Tiller”.  Since Dr. Tiller’s murder, the cops have probably adopted a “post-Tiller” mindset wherein they take even non-specific threats more seriously.

One hopes, anyway.

Going once…

Ebay was apparently asleep at the switch yesterday and the auction to benefit Scott Roeder went ahead… for a few minutes, anyway:

An eBay auction to raise money for the man charged with killing a Wichita abortion doctor launched Sunday night despite eBay’s pledge to nix it.

But organizers posted items that were less contentious than those they’d originally planned to sell, and they used spellings that make searches difficult.

“I really am hopeful that eBay can see that once this is up, that it is not a glorification of violence,” said auction organizer Dave Leach, an abortion opponent from Iowa. “If the auction stays up, it will only be because eBay has been shamed into recognizing the nonviolent nature of the items.”

Of course.  How could anyone possibly find violence in something like this:

Despite the brain-damaged, fetus-obsessed terrorists’ best efforts to sleaze their little “Bucks for Bort-Hunters” auction through, Ebay caught on and pulled it.  Of course it’s still available in all its glory in Google cache — TPM has a slide show of some of the happy little totally non-violent items that were up for grabs.

He’s here! He’s here!

Right here!  Here’s a picture!  Come and get him!!!

Late-term abortionist on hand to cheer Pelosi's healthcare bill_1256851340566

Pantingly posting as “breaking!!” the news that Dr. Carhart was at the press conference, along with  a picture (likely taken without his permission), seems to be sending a message of some kind.  I won’t speculate on what that might be, but I think it’s worth noting that Dr. Tiller was relentlessly stalked the same way.

As a sidebar, the sleazy freak who creeped up on Dr. Carhart and took his picture is Wendy Wright of “Concerned Women of America”.  Wright, a pig-ignorant Christofascist who’s dumber than a bag of brain-dead hammers, was interviewed by Richard Dawkins earlier this year. The resulting video is enough to make you want to shotgun a 26er of Everclear:

But remember: the fact that they’re intellectually-bankrupt scientific illiterates doesn’t make them any less dangerous.

Ebay runs amok, chilling free speech, raping Constitution

Just to reiterate my update in the “Auction for Roeder” post, Ebay has announced that it won’t allow the anti-abortion terrorists’ auction:

An eBay auction planned by abortion opponents to raise money for the man accused of killing Wichita abortion doctor George Tiller will not be permitted, company officials said Tuesday.

“Based on the details we know about the anticipated listings, we believe these would violate our policy regarding offensive material,” the company said in a statement to The Kansas City Star. “EBay will not permit the items in question to be posted to the eBay site, and they will be removed if they are posted.”

That’s a relief, though not entirely unexpected.  Virtually every item on the block for this little online terrorist bake sale violated Ebay’s Offensive Material policy, especially the “murderabilia” and “violent felons” categories.  What was totally, boringly, stultifyingly predictable was the response of the would-be “auctioneers”, who immediately unleashed a shitstream of mindless and meaningless gibberish about free speech and the Constitution:

“They’re not only chilling the First Amendment of the Constitution, they’re raping the whole Constitution,” said Regina Dinwiddie, a Kansas City abortion opponent and friend of Roeder.

Raping the whole Constitution!! Right, well let’s hope the Constitution doesn’t find itself pregnant as a result, because Dinwiddie would no doubt force it by any means necessary to carry the pregnancy to term.

Ebay auction for Roeder – how to stop it

It’s still unclear whether Ebay will allow the fundraiser for Scott Roeder (for terrorists, by terrorists) to go ahead.   However, their statement said that EBay “does not allow listings that promote or glorify violence, hate, racial or religious intolerance, or items that encourage, promote, facilitate or instruct others to engage in illegal activity,” so it’s not looking good for the vicious, spittle-flecked mental defectives proposing to run this thing.  Especially since the Tiller family’s lawyer will petition for any funds raised to be redirected to Victims’ Services, as per the “Son of Sam Law“.

But it wouldn’t hurt to let Ebay feel a little of your righteous wrath until they issue a more definitive statement.  In case you missed the link in my previous post, via Roeder Watch, here’s how you can tell Ebay how you feel about terrorists raising funds on their site:

Email:  and

Phone:  1-800-322-9266 and 1-888-749-3229  (7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Pacific time, Monday through Friday)

Every little bit, eh?

UPDATE: Victory.  (h/t JAB)

Maddow on Terrorist Auction

Rachel Maddow discusses the fetus fetishists’ planned Ebay fundraiser for Scott Roeder, and interviews the Tiller family’s lawyer.  It turns out that even if Ebay doesn’t block the auction, any funds raised will legally be directed to Victims’ Services.  Which just goes to show, for the umpteenth time, how terminally fucking stupid these deranged creeps really are.

But never mind the nutcases running the auction:  who are the brain-damaged freaks doing the bidding?   Maybe that guy you passed on your way to work this morning, the one with the “Choose Life” license plates.  I’ve seen a graphic on some Canadian anti-choice blogs that’s similar to the “David & Goliath” picture being auctioned — but it quickly disappeared when Dr. Tiller was killed.

The poison is a lot more pervasive in the anti-abortion movement than they’d have us believe.

What next, bake sale for bin Laden?

Mmmm, Jailhouse ChOnline auction to raise funds in Scott Roeder case - Kansas City Star_1256532393789eesecake!  This and other fine institutional fare will be featured in an anti-abortion shooter’s recipe book, which is among the “unique” items anti-choice whackjobs plan to flog on Ebay in a fundraiser for their boy Scott:

An Army of God manual. A prison cookbook compiled by a woman doing time for abortion clinic bombings and arsons. An autographed bullhorn.

These are among the items that abortion foes plan to auction on eBay and other Web sites in a fundraiser for Scott Roeder, the Kansas City man charged with killing Wichita abortion doctor George Tiller.

“This is unique,” said Regina Dinwiddie, a Kansas City anti-abortion activist who will sign the bullhorn. “Nobody’s ever done this before. The goal is that everybody makes money for Scott Roeder’s defense.”

“Unique”, um, yeah.  Dimwittie’s bullhorn is very unique and special indeed, because she was the first person convicted under the FACE Act (Freedom of Access to Clinics) back in 1995, and forbidden to use her Bullhorn of Godly Fetus-Fetishizing Righteousness within 500 feet of any clinic in Missouri.

Along with Dinwiddie, Dave Leach, organizer of the auction, was also interviewed for this story.  What the article didn’t mention is that both of these people are signatories of the Army of God’s “Defensive Action Statement“, which declares that the murder of abortion providers is Justifiable Homicide.  Among the other anti-choice luminaries who signed the statement are Paul Hill, Donald Spitz and Michael Bray.  So these aren’t just your average everyday fetus fetishists;  they’re  violent, brain-damaged scum who are, at the very least, enablers and supporters of domestic terrorism.   In fact, if the people who signed that “defensive action statement” were middle-eastern rather than whitebread middle-American, we’d be calling it a “fatwa” and the people who signed it a “cell”.

But never mind that.  The auction supposedly launches November 1st.  It’s being discussed on the Ebay forums and complaints have probably already started rolling in, so it remains to be seen if it will even make the cut with Ebay.  If it does, I suppose someone who doesn’t mind forfeiting their Ebay account for a good cause could always start the bidding at $100,000,000.   Ya think!??

Olby on Fox, Teabaggers & the Values Voters

Keith Olbermann had a thing or two to say about Fox News’ staging of their supposedly “grassroots” (or is that “assroots”!?) teabaggers march and the Full Page Lie that Fox ran in the Washington Post (among others) last week.    He also says “WTF?” to the “Values Voters Summit” for giving Bill O’Reilly some bullshit “Media Courage” award — because he promotes “Life”(!??)… not too hard to guess where Olby went with that.

Roeder’s legal “advisor”, ex-wife speak

Right Wing Watch has some audio snippets from last night’s Alan Colmes show, wherein he interviews anti-abortion freak Dave Leach, who  has been assisting Scott Roeder‘s legal defense and sounds like as much of a crazed fetus fetishist as Roeder himself.  In the interview, Leach as much as admits to Colmes that he supports the murder of abortion providers, although he “regrets that’s the only way to stop abortion”.  (Oh well, alrighty then.)  Not surprisingly, he also favours the delusional “justifiable homicide” defense that Roeder is reportedly actually considering using in a real court of law (can you say “Bye-bye, Dickhead”?).

Apart from Leach’s deranged gibberish, the show got even more interesting when Roeder’s ex-wife Lindsey called in.  She stated that she is pro-choice, saying “Women should have a choice with their own body”, but also said that she didn’t feel comfortable or safe admitting it until Roeder was behind bars — even after they were divorced.  She was also not surprised to find out Roeder murdered Dr. Tiller:

She says he was not shocked when she learned her ex-husband was the accused killer of Tiller,  and that he supported the actions of another anti-abortion murderer, Paul Hill.  […]

Lindsey says she wasn’t always pro-choice, but she is now.

Speaking of divorce: not surprisingly, Mrs.Roeder had a bitch of a time getting her ex to make child support payments.  He apparently spent all his money on TV evangelists and saving Teh Unborn.

All together now:

“If you’re pre-born you’re fine, if you’re pre-school, you’re fucked.”

Nice petition, guys

Fetus fetishists make a petition for “fetal consent to abortion”:

Fetal Consent For Abortion Petition_1248895814974

“Any baby killer that does NOT obtain written or verbal consent from the child they kill WILL be executed for first degree murder within 90 days of the murder with no appeals process.” Fortunately it looks like this isn’t a super-popular petition, given there’s only 12 signatures:

Fetal Consent For Abortion - Signatures_1248895726629

But 12 signatures (oh and look who #2 is:  Jill aka bayouchild… colour me fucking shocked) translated to 12 high-powered rifles at 12 different locations, hmmm yes, I can see a potential problem.  Do you see a problem?  I see a problem.

Roeder pleads

Not Guilty:

A Kansas judge on Tuesday ordered an anti-abortion activist to stand trial in the death of a Wichita doctor who was gunned down at his church.

Scott Roeder, 51, pleaded not guilty after being bound over to trial on charges of first-degree murder in the death of Dr. George Tiller, who ran a women’s clinic in which he performed abortions. Tiller was shot to death May 31 as services began at Reformation Lutheran Church. Roeder also faces two charges of aggravated assault for threatening church members Gary Hoepner and Keith Martin.  […]

Roeder was nailed as the shooter by witnesses who also testified that he’d been seen at the church the previous Sunday.

During a preliminary hearing Tuesday, Gary Hoepner, an usher and 52-year member of the church, testified he was talking with Tiller before services when a man walked up to them, “put a gun right up to George’s head and shot it.”  […]

Hoepner identified Roeder as the man he saw that day, and testified he had also seen him at the church the Sunday before the incident. Church members told him the man had placed a note in the church’s collection plate, Hoepner said, and that the same man had done so previously. Anderson also said he had seen the man at the church, saying he remembered the man was balding and “his clothes didn’t match very well.”

So it looks like Roeder was stalking Dr. Tiller, something it’s already common knowledge he was doing during Dr. Tiller’s court case.  He did so with the assistance of Operation Rescue’s Cheryl Sullenger, who reportedly said after the killing “Who knew??” what Roeder would do with the information she was giving him about Dr. Tiller’s every move.

I’m glad Roeder isn’t copping a plea, because it means he intends to put up a fight, which in turn means he might be ratting on old friends who he feels have  deserted him.  That he’ll be convicted is without question, but in the process I’d like to see him take as many of his douchebag friends down with him as possible, starting with the rotten shit-eating scum who helped him stalk Dr. Tiller.

The trial starts Sept.21.  Pass the popcorn.

Randall Terry incites violence, ridicules those who accuse him of inciting violence

From Right Wing Watch, here are some clips of Randall Terry’s deranged oral ejaculations at the National Press Club on Tuesday.

1.  After making a point about his “25 years of non-violence”, Terry gets right down to hurling some not-so-veiled threats– oh sorry, “warnings” — to the Obama administration about the upcoming violence and “convulsions” (I think it’s more than a little creepy that he felt compelled to specifically mention Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, as if to point out alternate targets):

2. Then he gives what’s basically a “things to do” list to his nutzoid followers — non-payment of taxes, random acts of vandalism and violence and, “God forbid”, reprisals on “individuals deemed guilty” by persons “on the fringe”:

The shorter version:  Do it my way or I’ll unleash my army of crazed freaks.

Last but not least, to show how much respect he has for those who think his violent rhetoric is an incitement to, um, violence, he does an impression of a whiny liberal:

There’s actually nothing new about this kind of rhetoric; “civil war” over abortion is a recurring theme even on nice polite Canadian anti-choice blogs.  So when Randall Terry refers to persons “on the fringe” as if that doesn’t include him, he’s actually right.  He’s a mainstream anti-choicer, and his ideas are those of the anti-choice mainstream.  Never forget that.

Terry “warns of” violence

Anyone with two halves of a brain to rub together would conclude that afterba-walk25_ph1_0499710096.jpg (JPEG Image, 320x512 pixels)_1245858813475 the years of escalating violent rhetoric that culminated in the murder of Dr. Tiller, it might be time to turn the volume down a little.  Not Operation Rescue’s founder Randall Terry.  And not Christian News Wire, which seems only too happy to give him a platform to spew his deluded gibberish.

Tomorrow Terry will be holding yet another one of his fire-and-brimstone press conferences, this time to discuss “the violent convulsions” (and maybe civil war) to come, if legislators pass any health care bill covering abortion:

“Let all those in government be warned: They cannot order people to pay for the murder of babies, and betray God Himself, without horrific consequences.”

Background: It is clear that many elements in the pro-abortion congress and White House want to force Americans to pay for the murder of the unborn in their “healthcare” program.

If that happens, it is tantamount to the government putting a gun to taxpayers’ heads to pay for the brutal murder of an innocent child. This is tyranny and evil of the highest order.

“Please understand: neither I, nor any thinking person wants the convulsions that would inevitably come from such a government policy — the decision to force Americans to pay for the murder of their neighbor.

“Nevertheless, the sheer horror and frustration of such an evil policy will lead some people to absolutely refuse to pay their taxes. And I believe — if my reading of history from America and around the world is correct — that there are others who will be tempted to acts of violence.

“If the government of this country tramples the faith and values of its citizens, history will hold those in power responsible for the violent convulsions that follow.” — Randall Terry

Nice dog whistle to the Scott Roeders of the world, who at this very moment are in darkened rooms, drooling and muttering to themselves over their computers, trigger fingers twitching and brains squirming like worms on fire, understanding Terry’s venom as a call to some kind of deranged action.  And as if to ensure that nobody makes any mistakes about the marching orders, a second spittle-flecked press release:

If Congress votes to fund the murder of babies by abortion in any “health care” bill — either explicitly or implicitly — there could be horrific consequences.

Pelosi and Co. cannot expect millions of Americans to betray God, and to pay for the murder of their neighbor without something snapping. They must not delude themselves: Congress runs the real risk of national convulsions that have not been seen since the 60s, or perhaps since the civil war if they try to compel Americans to pay for the murder of the innocent.

If they attempt to fund abortion, it is tantamount to the government putting a gun to taxpayers’ heads to pay for the brutal murder of an innocent child. There are many of us who will not comply.

What’s the difference between Terry’s thinly-veiled exhortations to violence and threats issued by Al Qaeda or the Taliban?   About 8,000 miles.

Scrubbing Bubbles at Operation Rescue site

Well, lookee here.   Operation Scumbag has been having website “problems”:

Operation Rescue_1247851946475

I recall their site crashed just hours after the killing (which they had nothing to do with, nothing! and were shocked, shocked I tell you! to hear about, belying their decades-long demonization and harassment of Dr.Tiller).   But not before intrepid bloggers revealed that the murder suspect, who had OR’s phone number in his car, had also been posting on their website and in regular touch with their “senior policy adviser”, who helped him stalk Dr.Tiller.  One can only imagine the frantic purging that went on in those dark, feverish hours of May 31st.   But apparently that wasn’t enough time to do what had to be done, because since then they’ve been running on an emergency site while “fixing” the old one:

Operation Rescue_1247852382667

Operation Rescue_1247852399682

Got that?  Their webmaster lost internet service at his office AND his home, AND his computer crashed (probably chewing up a few incriminating files in the process), all on the same day!  The LORD works in mysterious ways!  So…

Operation Rescue_1247852423257

It’s not “spiritual” warfare these depraved douchebags are worried about, it’s “legal” warfare, and in that respect, the ordeal has only just begun. Keep praying, assholes.
