That was Stephen Harper speaking to the media last night, looking like he’s unloading in his pants. “They” are the Liberal/NDP/Bloc coalition that’s being discussed.
This irks me: how does Harper figure the CPC has *earned* power, when 63% of us voted for someone else? The CPC was just the least-losingest party, whoop-de-doo. Hardly a ringing endorsement. And then to use their minority power to subvert the democratic process is beyond the fucking pale.
Enough. Get this coalition going, and bring them down.
There you go, JJ. It’s trenchant, astute blogposts like this that have 00% feminist content that lost you your nomination in the CBA’s best feminist blog category.
So, can you really shoot, like guns? Big ones?
Ed Broadbent and Jean Chretien are working to find
a solution.
Together they have a lot of parliamentary experience
and a legacy of service.
Service–that’s a word Harper doesn’t know except to
make lackeys do things because they work for him.
For a Christian [so-called] he’s full of contradictions.
Maybe the CPC should make him step down and let the opposition
parties coalition run the show. Then they should declare
his riding vacant and not allow him to succeed himself.
For a tax-cutter, he’s driving us to the poorhouse with his
spendthrift ways. We can’t afford him just like Ontario
couldn’t afford Mike Harris anymore, either.
Pack his bags and put him on the train out of town.
Harper is such an arrogant prick. He and his supporters also seem to think that the voters elected a President/Leader.
Good point Torontonian. Chretien and Broadbent are heavy weights when it comes to governing during difficult economic times. Additionally, crap talk from right wing pundits and media about coalitions failing because the three parties have irreconcilable POVs is well, just crap. The LPC, NDP and Bloc have proven to be very effective in cooperating on committee work. It’s only the CPC who have acted like bullies in a sandbox when it comes to committee work.
And then to use their minority power to subvert the democratic process is beyond the fucking pale.
Speaking as the pale….LOL. The CPoC really just don’t give a damn. They know their base doesn’t tend to ask difficult questions, or any questions. And the ones who put all the money into the CPoC coffers, are only paying for services rendered.
These buggas need pushback. BADLY. I think we need a concerted effort in that direction.
“The LPC, NDP and Bloc have proven to be very effective in cooperating on committee work”
Excellent point, Beijing.
Anyone not signed this yet?

deBeauxOs – Well, I can see the judge’s point 😉 they had to be very discriminating in their choice of blogs for the category, for obvious reasons. It’s okay — if anything, it just reinforces my individualism 😛
“So, can you really shoot, like guns? Big ones?”
How big is big? I’ve never fired an AK-47, if that’s what you mean.
Torontonian – Not much surprises me in politics, but I have to admit I was a bit floored when I heard Ed Broadbent and Jean Chretien were involved. (And Broadbent “went for a walk in the snow”? How iconic.)
For almost 3 years the opposition has been Harper’s punching bag. I’m really amazed they found the cojones to finally stand up to him — now that they’ve got him on the run, let’s hope they keep the pressure on.
Beijing – Harper started off arrogant and became even more so because the opposition allowed him to.
Right from the start the most important talking point they had, which was to be repeated at every opportunity, was “our former liberal government” fucked up this way and that, blah blah yada yada. The opposition didn’t fight it and the media let him get away with it, because if they didn’t, they were cut off. No wonder he became so arrogant, nobody ever questioned him or any of his sychophants.
In a 2-party system, he’d never get out of the wilderness.
pale – Pushback: It’s funny to see it coming from within parliament, though. Usually it’s the boots on the ground people doing all the pushing and trying to get their MPs off their asses.
I’m amazed to see this happening given how much fighting there was between Libs and NDP during the election. What’s the point when you’ve got one conservative party, and 3 or 4 parties fighting for scraps on the leftward side? So nobody is more surprised than I am to see them talking coalition. *faint*
Alison – Thanks for the link. Blogged, just in case there’s someone out there who still hasn’t signed it.
Shorter Stephen Harper: “Fetch me my brown pants!”
JAB – I’m pretty sure any pants Harper wears right about now are brown, or at least end up that way.
I’ve never fired an AK-47
Well, a lot of good you’re going to be over the next few months. 🙂
😆 😆
Don’t worry, I’m a quick study 8)
