Dr. Geoge Tiller shot to death this morning

…as he was on his way into church.

Anti-abortion extremists Operation Rescue, who have harrassed Dr. Tiller for years, claim they’re “Shocked, I tell you, shocked!

I say:  fuck you, motherfucks.  At the very least, your rhetoric contributed to this.  Fuck you!

I hate to say this but this was totally inevitable, given the wingnut anti-choice rhetoric since Obama’s win.

I got one question for the American government: Why are ya focusing on terrorism from outside the country when ya gots more than enough terrorists at home?

I can almost hear the champaign corks popping now, as the “pro-life” mob gears up to celebrate it’s anti-life actions this day.

    Bastards.

Maybe it is just my perception but it most often appears that those who are religiously fundamentalist – god fearing & lovin folk who are responsible for acts of violence against those who don’t agree with their rigid view of the world: murdering doctors who perform abortions, people who are gay, people who are a different colour, people who belief in different beliefs and so on.

The god they pray to and is reflected through their actions is an unloving and unforgiving god who is vengeful and hateful.

    Good morrow, all!
Hello, Jan. It is not just your perception. As Lewis Black said bluntly in one of his routines, “The God of the Old Testament…was a prick.”
You realize, of course, with their Old Testament preachings, and their laments of persecution, if these people made better chicken soup, they’d be Jewish. Jesus himself would probably lump them in with the Pharisees of his day, and the fundies would probably line up for tickets to His crucifiction.
“Let’s see…we got yer NASCAR Deliverance 500, yer Billy Bob Wingnut Revival Meeting and Monster Truck Rally…hey, whut’s this? Some long-haired peace freak’s gonna get his balls nailed to a cross? YEE-HAW! Martha, warm up the truck, and where’s the Bud? I gotta see this! Jesus, what a rush!”
Why am I not surprised? CTZen

Meanwhile, SHE is in full backpedal mode after having earlier gleefully linked to Jill Stanek gleefully linking to Gingi The Unhingied’s metaphorical shitting on the graves of Bud Feldkamp’s family.

fern hill – OMFG, I was just about to leave for work when I saw the post at CC’s, and I didn’t even have time to post anything but my most gut reaction. I haven’t even had time to read anything else about it yet. Did they catch the asshole who did it?

You are right — with all the shrieking rhetoric these psychos crank out non-stop, especially the way they’ve ramped it up since the election, it was inevitable that one of them would take it to the next level.

I am beyond angry, beyond outraged.

  7. 7 JJ Sunday, May 31, 2009 at 4:16 pm

Chimera – Well I guess it goes to show the government does indeed have a good reason to keep a watchlist of right-wing terrorist groups, including anti-abortion freaks. Remember the outrage over that about 6 weeks ago? Now maybe they GET IT.

  8. 8 JJ Sunday, May 31, 2009 at 4:20 pm

Jan from the Bruce – Of course. It’s always the spittle-flecked scripture-spewing religious fanatics who justify violent acts because their authoritarian god “would want it that way”. By sheer coincidence, in the “Lazy Saturday” thread we’re talking about this too — the brain damage that results from religious fundamentalism.

“You realize, of course, with their Old Testament preachings, and their laments of persecution, if these people made better chicken soup, they’d be Jewish.”

This comment does not sit well with me. There’s an important difference between Jewish people and so-called Christian fundies when it comes to fear of being persecuted. It’s that Jewish people really have been persecuted over and over again. But the so-called “Christian” fundie wingnuts have not. The fundie delusion about persecution is a fantasy that’s not based in reality but is based in something else — their twisted upbringings, the doctrine that’s rammed down their throats. Something, but it’s not reality-based. Whereas if Jewish people are caught up with fears of persecution it’s a symptom of post-traumatic stress syndrome — it’s what happens to people who really have been traumatized.

To speak lightly of the Jewish fear of persecution or to refer to it in a way that is anything less than respectful is akin to making light of how women who have been raped may fear walking alone or getting into a cab alone with a male driver or even going to sleep at night which she may be if the man who raped her broke into her home. It’s not funny, and Jewish fear of being persecuted is not funny, either. Whereas Christian fundie fear of being persecuted is a sign of some kind of real sickness.

CTZen – Punishment freaks, each and every one of them. Which is why they can justify shooting a doctor who performs a LEGAL procedure that they don’t happen to agree with.

That’s what women are up against if they want to be free.

  11. 11 JJ Sunday, May 31, 2009 at 4:32 pm

orange – Important difference there, I’m pretty sure CTZ would agree. Also, although the OT is full of violence, in actual practice Judaism doesn’t seem to embrace judgementalism, self-flagellation and punishment the way fundie Christianity does.

  12. 12 JJ Sunday, May 31, 2009 at 4:35 pm

JAB – Yeah, and I bet some of them are making a clean sweep of all the violent “abortion wars” rhetoric on their blogs.

    Hypocrites! Assholes!

  13. 13 harpervalley Sunday, May 31, 2009 at 4:48 pm

it’s a rare day today, i checked the news. as soon as i read about tiller i knew you’d have a post on it, JJ. being in hawaii can feel removed from the u.s.a. most of the time….until you read stories like this and had an experience with homeland security (scout strikes again)….then the frightening realization of where you are and what this place is all about bites your arse and it’s not pleasant.

i truly , deeply feel sorry for the general population of the united states. how could mulroney, harper et al have sold us down the tubes to become the 51st? fuckers.

  14. 14 Phatbiker Sunday, May 31, 2009 at 4:59 pm

I’m not surprized this happened, with all the right-wing TV and radio (Limpdick) hosts beating the war-drum of hate. I worry for Obama’s safety.

  15. 15 Mike Sunday, May 31, 2009 at 5:32 pm

I’m with you JJ, fuck them, they wear this. They are as guilty as the shooter.

I want to use your side bar badge. I want everyone to know that I support the pro-choice side arming for self-defense.

And after today, I don’t give a flying fuck what Patsy thinks of that. Because if he is going to excuse Tillers murder, then yes, that is a threat.

  16. 16 JJ Sunday, May 31, 2009 at 6:03 pm

Hi scout – The weird thing is that I didn’t even find out until 10 minutes before I had to leave for work, so I had no opportunity to post about it at all, except for a FUCK YOU!!! I am only now just starting to wade through all the news and blog stories on this.

It’s horrible, but this is where all the virulent rhetoric goes. You’re right, that is what the US has turned into because of all this screaming and demonizing.

    Aloha.

  17. 17 JJ Sunday, May 31, 2009 at 6:09 pm

Phatbiker – It’s true, they’ve been ramping up the rhetoric ever since the election. They lost and they’re not happy, so this is the result. The anti-choice movement is losing and they’re not happy, this is the result.

Frankly, I have often feared for Dr. Tiller’s life — he’s already been shot (twice I think) and survived, but the anti-choicers have been going absolutely apeshit since Obama was elected, something was bound to happen. And when I heard about this today, after my initial shock I immediately thought of Obama. I am genuinely afraid for his safety. I hope those secret service dudes know what they’re doing!!!

  18. 18 JJ Sunday, May 31, 2009 at 6:14 pm

Mike – They will piss and whine and moan for the next year about how this is just one person and doesn’t have anything to do with their “movement”, but they all own it. Anyone who ever said “Tiller the Killer” or used any of the other inflammatory rhetoric is guilty of aiding and abetting. That is what made it happen.

Feel free to use the image. These assholes are on notice.

  19. 19 Chimera Sunday, May 31, 2009 at 10:35 pm

“To speak lightly of the Jewish fear of persecution…”

Uh…who said anything about that? It was a comment on how Old Testament the Religious Right are with their angry god of vengeance and smiting; and how they all want to be just like him. Nothing to do with persecutions at all.

  20. 20 mouthyorange Monday, June 1, 2009 at 4:33 am

Chimera – I don’t know if I’m missing something or you’re missing something. The original comment (CTZ’s) to which I responded referred to “laments of persecutions”. So I don’t understand why you now say that there was nothing about persecutions in the comment I responded to. Also, the original comment was not only about fundie Christianity. It compared the attitude of fundie Christians to that of Jewish people.

  21. 21 Chimera Monday, June 1, 2009 at 9:22 am

MO, it’s you who’s missing something — the fact that it’s the fundies who are crying persecution now, and the persecution of the Jews referred to by Cornelius was that of the Old Testament (yes, it’s in there), not pre-WWII Europe.

“Also, the original comment was not only about fundie Christianity. It compared the attitude of fundie Christians to that of Jewish people.”

Old Testament Jews — “God’s Chosen” — biblical Jews.

And that comparison originally came from a Jewish comedian. Cornelius just repeated it. And who knows — maybe Cornelius himself is Jewish.

  22. 22 American Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at 5:06 am

Reading through these posts I have discovered that most of you are morons.

I especially like this one: Chimera, “I got one question for the American government: Why are ya focusing on terrorism from outside the country when ya gots more than enough terrorists at home?”
When, on the rare occasion, we have domestic terrorists we deal with them promtly. And though I am not expert I do believe the combined numbers of the Taliban, Al-qaeda, Hezzbola, Hamas, and a dozen others may slighty out number the few disturbed Americans running around.

People like him have historically tried to blur the meaning of words to fit their own perception of the world. One guy with a gun on a mission to kill someone does not a terrorist make. Criminal or murderer yes, terrorist no. Religious fanatic, possibly.

Tiller, supposedly, was intelligent enough to know that abortion goes against the teachings of Christianity. Why then would he insist on going to Church. I would suggest he did it to aggravate people and stir controversy.

Lets say I accidentally ran over your cat or dog. Now every friday I come to your home and stand outside and go “nanny nanny boo boo”. How long before you come outside to kick my ass or shoot me.
